The Los Angeles County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Senior Equipment Maintenance Worker vacancies related to an unprecedented natural disaster. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance, with this assessment weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Senior Equipment Maintenance Worker. This role involves performing complex maintenance and repair of equipment and tools used across various County departments, including recreational activities, parks and public works maintenance, engineering and surveying, hospitals and institutions, fueling facilities, custody facilities, institutional kitchens, and miscellaneous activities. Responsibilities include calibrating fuel gauges, requisitioning supplies, operating woodworking and metalworking equipment, fabricating special equipment, keeping work records, and ensuring the proper use of safety equipment. The role may also involve minor welding, leading patient helpers or public assistance recipients, performing building maintenance, and driving automotive equipment.
