About The Position

Primarily responsible for maintenance and support of the Epic IRIS databases on Linux platforms for both production and non-production environments. This includes monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and updating/upgrading the Epic IRIS databases. The role provides support for ongoing Epic EMR implementation projects, offering technical expertise including testing and training. It also involves system administration of several servers and software systemd analysis, installation, and implementation. The administrator will collaborate closely with technical teams, customers, analyst teams, vendor support, and management to align development plans and ensure effective integration among information systems and the UAMS IT infrastructure. Responsibilities also include monitoring technological advancements to continuously improve solutions, ensure support, and align with industry and company standards and emerging business requirements. The administrator must understand system, application, and service interactions within the environment, evaluating the impact of changes or additions. They will analyze systems and perform usability testing to ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and security. This position provides top-tier support for UAMS Information Technology and conducts tasks as directed. It requires participation in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation, with each member taking call for one week at a time. The role is recognized as an advanced individual contributor, working with limited supervision and extensive latitude for independent judgment, and may assist less experienced peers.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field of study, with 3 years of work experience in an IT environment supporting two of the following: Windows Server Administration, Storage Area Network Administration, UNIX/Linux Server Administration.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field of study, with 5 years of work experience in an IT environment supporting two of the following: Windows Server Administration, Storage Area Network Administration, UNIX/Linux Server Administration.
  • OR Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field of study, with 7 years of work experience in an IT environment supporting two of the following: Windows Server Administration, Storage Area Network Administration, UNIX/Linux Server Administration.
  • OR High School Diploma/GED with 9 years of work experience in an IT environment supporting two of the following: Windows Server Administration, Storage Area Network Administration, UNIX/Linux Server Administration.
  • Required to be on-call and to respond immediately to trouble calls outside of general work hours.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 5 years of work experience in an IT environment supporting two of the following: Windows Server Administration, Storage Area Network Administration, UNIX/Linux Server Administration.
  • 2 years of experience supporting Epic IRIS/Cache.
  • 2 years of experience supporting RHEL infrastructure.
  • Epic – ODBA Certified.
  • Database performance tuning and optimization, backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery design, scripting, working knowledge of enterprise networking concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support Epic IRIS databases on Linux platforms for production and non-production environments.

  • Understand interactions between systems, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluate the impact of changes or additions.
  • Analyze systems and perform usability testing to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, and meet security requirements.
  • Provide top tier support for UAMS Information Technology.
  • Conduct tasks and assignments as directed.
  • Participate in a group 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on-call rotation (1 week at a time).
  • Assist less experienced peers.
