Senior Enterprise Architect – Integration

International Motors•Lisle, IL

About The Position

International Motors is seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect – Integration to provide enterprise-level leadership for how applications, platforms, and services connect, communicate, and exchange data. As part of Enterprise Architecture, this role shapes integration strategy and architecture across a diverse technology landscape spanning corporate functions, operational technology, ERP, financial services, R&D, manufacturing, and service solutions. The role establishes and guides enterprise integration architecture, standards, patterns, and governance to ensure integration approaches are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with enterprise architecture principles and technology strategy. The landscape includes modern and legacy applications, on-premises systems, SaaS platforms, commercial off-the-shelf solutions, vendor-hosted platforms, APIs, and other integration technologies. The architect provides oversight and strategic guidance throughout solution design and delivery, conducting architecture reviews, evaluating proposed approaches, identifying risks and dependencies, and supporting alignment with enterprise standards and direction. The role also advises federated application and solution teams on integration options and trade-offs, helping determine appropriate approaches based on business, functional, technical, security, data, and operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 11 years of Information Technology or IT Architecture experience, plus at least 2 years of lead experience; OR a master's degree and at least 9 years of Information Technology or IT Architecture experience, plus at least 2 years of lead experience; OR at least 14 years of Information Technology or IT Architecture experience, plus at least 2 years of lead experience.
  • Legally authorized on an unrestricted basis to be employed in the United States (U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, refugee, or asylee); employment-related work sponsorship is not anticipated.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder-management, and influencing skills with senior technical and business leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • Broad enterprise integration architecture experience in a large, established, or regulated organization, preferably in-house across multiple business domains.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise integration patterns, middleware, SOA, API-led connectivity, event-driven architecture, and hybrid/cloud integration (Azure, AWS, GCP), including when and why to use each.
  • Experience leading architecture review boards, integration governance, or enterprise standards programs.
  • Track record integrating legacy or on-premises systems with modern SaaS and cloud platforms, including working within vendor and API limitations.
  • Technical foundation strong enough to evaluate designs, identify flaws, and assess risk across technologies without serving as the hands-on implementer.
  • Familiarity with integration and API management platforms such as TIBCO, MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, Kafka, Oracle SOA Suite, or Microsoft APIM.
  • Experience in a matrixed, international environment.
  • Manufacturing or automotive industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Define the enterprise integration vision, roadmap, reference architectures, and approved patterns across legacy, on-premises, SaaS, and cloud platforms.
  • Evaluate how new technologies and solutions integrate with the existing landscape, assessing security, performance, scalability, maintainability, and supportability.
  • Select integration approaches such as APIs, messaging, event-driven architecture, file/ETL, or middleware based on system constraints, vendor limitations, and long-term fit.
  • Define disposition strategies for legacy middleware and integrations, including retaining, retiring, replacing, or modernizing them; balance near-term delivery with technical-debt reduction.
  • Lead architecture reviews focused on integrations and system-to-system communication; review proposed designs against requirements, identify gaps, and guide teams in addressing them.
  • Build and lead a formal integration governance process, potentially including an Integration Governance Committee of application owners, data providers, and subject-matter experts.
  • Replace ad hoc point-to-point builds and direct database access with approved reusable patterns that protect source systems and prevent duplicate integrations.
  • Establish standards for versioning, lifecycle management, security, documentation, and monitoring to provide visibility into enterprise data movement.
  • Author and maintain integration standards, playbooks, standard operating procedures, and tool-selection guidance by architecture style, use case, and platform.
  • Promote adoption through learning sessions, design consultations, reusable components, and shared services.
  • Ensure integrations meet enterprise security requirements, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, and certificate-based authentication, as well as data-protection and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with technology leaders, product owners, application, infrastructure, and data teams, and business stakeholders across domains.
  • Advise teams and influence architectural decisions without direct authority; communicate technical trade-offs to technical teams and senior leadership, and constructively challenge decisions when needed.
  • Mentor architects and engineers on integration patterns and enterprise design thinking.

Benefits

  • Competitive market-based compensation.
  • Comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee wellbeing.
