About The Position

As a Senior Engineering Technician, you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain custom automation and OEM manufacturing equipment supporting IDEXX’s Water line of business. This is a 2nd shift role based in Scarborough, ME, where you will work hands-on with advanced mechanical and automated systems while partnering with engineering and production teams to ensure reliable, high-performing operations. You will play a key role in maintaining uptime, improving processes, and ensuring equipment performance across critical manufacturing systems including robotics, motion control, and electro-mechanical equipment. This role is essential to keeping IDEXX’s manufacturing operations running efficiently and reliably. Your expertise in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and preventive maintenance ensures minimal downtime and consistent production quality, directly impacting our ability to deliver critical water quality solutions to customers worldwide.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or engineering support role preferred
  • Strong technical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting and diagnostic experience
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing and process control equipment, including: Electrical and mechanical systems, PLCs (Allen Bradley, GE), Robotics and automation, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), Motion control systems, servo/stepper motors, Pneumatics, sensors, actuators, and fluid systems
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and implement solutions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Experience with CMMS systems and inventory management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline (mechanical, electrical, or similar) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair complex automation and manufacturing equipment, including robotics and pick-and-place systems.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble intricate mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze engineering data, trends, and system performance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support engineering activities related to equipment design, production processes, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, documentation, and technical reports.
  • Manage and maintain spare parts and inventory using CMMS systems.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and quality checks to ensure standards are met.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and maintenance processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams while also working independently to resolve technical issues.
