About The Position

Black & Veatch is hiring a Senior Engineering Technician to serve in a lead technical role supporting civil engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects in the Government & Communities Market Sector, particularly Water and Industrial Water projects. The position supports civil site development, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities. The role applies advanced civil engineering knowledge to develop and modify site development plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using industry-standard tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D. The Senior Engineering Technician provides technical guidance, consultation, and training to technicians and engineering staff, helping ensure consistent, high-quality work that complies with design standards. The position may coordinate and oversee assigned technicians and support conceptual and detailed design activities. Black & Veatch Operations develops, deploys, and maintains global resources and capabilities that guide execution and process excellence across the organization. The role works with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver infrastructure solutions. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days, subject to manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.

Requirements

Typically, a minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
Associate degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology is required.
Ability to complete applicable pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include criminal/civil background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records searches.

Bachelor degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor.
Apply advanced technical expertise and engineering principles to solve complex design challenges and develop civil designs.
Use digital tools and design software, including CAD, BIM, 3D modeling, and Autodesk Civil 3D, to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
Provide consultation, technical guidance, training, and oversight to engineering technicians and staff to support quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
Establish and communicate design and graphic standards; assist management with developing design standards and process improvements.
Review project requirements and design inputs to determine deliverable formats and content and ensure alignment and consistency.
Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
Manage drawing control and maintain historical project records.
Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
Review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy, as needed.
Coordinate with other design groups to exchange information for design development.
Communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
Support identification of client interests and drivers and communicate them to project team members; develop approaches to accommodate client concerns.
Identify and support training and development needs for supervised personnel.
Make presentations and conduct training classes within areas of specialized expertise.
May lead process improvement and change management activities.
May coordinate presentations, production design, and electronic design tools; monitor production for consistency, budget, and schedule; support field activities; or perform other special assignments within area of expertise.
