About The Position

SpyCloud is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its core platform team. SpyCloud’s product engineering teams are stream-aligned and own parts of its products end to end; they are the platform team’s internal customers. The platform team builds and operates the internal platform that supports those teams, helping them focus on product work rather than infrastructure, pipelines, and tooling. The role treats the platform as a product: earning adoption rather than mandating it, reducing the cognitive load on engineering teams, and using discovery with those teams to shape priorities. The manager will lead and grow platform engineers, own the platform vision and roadmap, define the platform’s service charter, and measure its effectiveness through delivery, adoption, and developer satisfaction. The role also operates the platform as a dependable service, leads platform-wide migrations, and evaluates AI-assisted development tools across engineering. SpyCloud’s technology stack includes Go, TypeScript, Python, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Databricks, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, AWS, Docker, Terraform, and Linux. The position offers a base salary range of $150,000–$195,000. Benefits vary by location; the posting lists separate benefits for U.S.-based and U.K.-based full-time employees. The position is remote-friendly and SpyCloud also has an engaging workspace in South Austin.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including hands-on platform engineering work.
  • 3–5 years of experience leading engineering teams of 4 or more people, ideally in platform engineering, engineering, or developer tooling.
  • A track record of operating an internal platform as a product, including explaining its internal customers, decisions about what not to build, and changes in adoption and satisfaction.
  • Experience operating highly available systems in AWS, with working knowledge of containers, Terraform, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Strong technical judgment and a hands-on approach, including sound architectural and build-versus-buy decisions and willingness to work in code when needed.
  • Experience using DORA metrics, SLOs, and developer experience surveys to set priorities and communicate platform value.
  • Excellent communication and ability to influence without authority, including leading cross-team migrations with teams the role does not manage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and grow a team of platform engineers, coaching them in product thinking and empathy for the developers they serve.
  • Own the platform vision and roadmap as a product, prioritizing through direct discovery with stream-aligned teams and clearly defining what the platform will not provide.
  • Publish and maintain a team charter describing the platform’s services, SLOs, support model, and engagement process.
  • Measure platform success using DORA metrics, developer satisfaction, golden path adoption, and self-service ratios, and use the results to guide priorities.
  • Operate the platform as a dependable product with SLOs, versioning, and on-call support.
  • Lead platform-wide migrations so the platform team carries the migration burden rather than every product team.
  • Evaluate, roll out, and measure AI-assisted development tools across engineering.
