About The Position

The Senior Engineering Manager of Fastly’s Platform Security team oversees and scales technical leadership across multiple engineering projects responsible for foundational infrastructure services. The role defines a multi-year technical vision and ensures strategic alignment with executive leadership, while fostering technical rigor, operational excellence, and innovation across the platform domain. The focus extends beyond day-to-day operations to strategic improvements, future-facing foundational infrastructure, and the evolution of secure orchestration and trust services. The position leads engineers and principal-level individual contributors, develops team capabilities, and collaborates across functions with a product-owner mindset to set roadmaps and priorities. It drives organization-wide adoption of practices for reliability, security, and operational excellence, and communicates strategy, progress, and risks to executive and technical stakeholders. Coding is not expected, but deep relevant technical experience is required. The role requires availability during core business hours and may involve occasional nights and weekends for on-call coverage. Preferred locations are San Francisco, Denver, and New York. Fastly largely uses a hybrid model, with a strong preference for hybrid work near a local office; exceptionally qualified candidates elsewhere in the US may be considered remotely. Travel may be required. The estimated salary range is $228,280 to $273,936, with potential eligibility for equity and discretionary bonus programs.

Requirements

At least 4 years of experience managing Platform or Site Reliability Engineering teams.
At least 10 years of related technical experience with distributed systems and infrastructure as code.
Demonstrated ability to drive a durable technical roadmap and facilitate effective collaboration in cross-functional teams.
Experience with secrets and workload identity management, including tools such as SPIFFE, SPIRE, or HashiCorp Vault.
Experience building and automating large-scale production infrastructure in public cloud and on-premises environments, using TFE or similar technologies.
Extensive hands-on experience in a Linux environment, with a solid understanding of system internals and performance optimization.
Availability during core business hours; occasional nights and weekends may be required to support on-call coverage.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Kubernetes, PKI, and configuration management tools such as Chef.
Proficiency in Python or Go.
Experience migrating physical or cloud-based workloads to new hosting platforms.
Experience collaborating with compliance or security teams.

Responsibilities
