This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to translate complex product and process requirements into practical, producible tooling solutions. The Senior Engineer will independently lead tooling design activities from concept through release and implementation, support troubleshooting on the manufacturing floor, and drive design improvements that enhance assembly efficiency, repeatability, quality, and safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including tooling, fixture, or mechanical equipment design within the aerospace, aviation, defense, or similarly complex manufacturing industry.
  • Experience developing 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and released design documentation.
  • Experience performing dimensional and tolerance stack-up analyses.
  • Experience working with large or complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering, manufacturing, and product development teams.
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME Y14 standards.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, interfaces, and technical requirements.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to independently resolve complex design and manufacturing challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering tasks, priorities, and deliverables with limited oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Sound engineering judgment and attention to detail.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter preferred.
  • Experience with ANSYS or equivalent structural or stress analysis software.
  • Experience designing mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE), assembly fixtures, lifting or handling equipment, transportation tooling, or hardware integration tooling.
  • Experience supporting turbine engines, propulsion systems, or other complex aerospace hardware.
  • Experience with Model-Based Definition (MBD), Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), and/or 3D PDFs.
  • Experience supporting tooling through fabrication, inspection, qualification, and production implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Design assembly tooling, fixtures, and mechanical support equipment for development and production engine build processes.
  • Own tooling designs from initial concept through detailed design, drawing release, fabrication, implementation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with manufacturing and assembly teams to troubleshoot build issues and develop tooling solutions that improve process capability, ergonomics, quality, and repeatability.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, 2D engineering drawings, tolerance analyses, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure tooling interfaces appropriately with engine hardware and assembly requirements.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME Y14 standards to engineering designs and drawings.
  • Ensure tooling models, drawings, and associated documentation are released and maintained in accordance with configuration management requirements.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, incorporating feedback from manufacturing, quality, analysis, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Evaluate design concepts for manufacturability, structural adequacy, functionality, cost, and ease of use.
  • Provide technical support during tooling fabrication, inspection, assembly, and implementation.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities while meeting program schedules and manufacturing needs.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize tooling approaches and improve engineering and manufacturing processes.
