About The Position

Horizon3 is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer to build product experiences that help customers understand, prioritize, and act on risk in their environments. The role owns meaningful product work end-to-end across backend and frontend systems, working closely with Product, Design, and engineering peers. It is approximately 80% backend-focused and 20% frontend-focused, and calls for independent project ownership, proactive management of risks and tradeoffs, and strong execution that raises the bar for the engineering team. The position involves building production software across backend services, APIs, and modern web interfaces; driving moderate-to-large projects from scoping and technical design through implementation, rollout, and iteration; and helping deliver clear, maintainable, performant user experiences. The engineer contributes to architecture and design discussions, writes high-quality code, tests, and technical documentation, performs code reviews, and supports and mentors less experienced engineers. Horizon3 is a remote cybersecurity company whose NodeZero platform delivers autonomous penetration tests and related assessment operations. The role may require up to 10% travel for project kickoffs and an annual company meeting. Compensation is a base salary of $170,000–$235,000 annually, determined by location, qualifications, experience, and skills. Full-time roles are eligible for equity in the form of stock options.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Professional experience building and operating production software across backend and frontend layers.
  • Experience building backend services using at least one modern language, such as Python, Go, Java, TypeScript, Rust, or similar.
  • Experience building frontend applications using modern frameworks such as Angular or React.
  • Experience working with SQL-based relational databases in production.
  • Experience building backend services on AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with Docker and containerized applications.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, service-oriented architectures, data modeling, and tradeoffs in scalable product systems.
  • Ability to drive substantial work from an ambiguous problem statement through delivery and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including explaining technical decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Track record of engineering execution, sound technical judgment, and pragmatic problem solving under ambiguity.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance.
  • Product-minded approach focused on improving customer outcomes.
  • Ability to work across multiple workstreams and balance competing priorities with clarity and ownership.

  • Experience with observability stacks such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana, and service instrumentation.
  • Experience in cybersecurity, vulnerability management, security analytics, security data platforms, or adjacent domains.
  • Experience building products or platforms in vulnerability management, exposure management, security telemetry, or related cybersecurity domains.
  • Familiarity with risk scoring, prioritization systems, or data-intensive backend workflows.
  • Experience partnering closely with product managers to define and sequence an MVP while maintaining future flexibility.
  • Experience defining technical standards or practices adopted beyond the immediate team.
  • A track record of shaping technical direction across an organization, beyond a single team or domain.

  • Partner with Product, Design, and adjacent engineering teams on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve technical risks, blockers, and mis-scoped work before they become larger delivery issues.
  • Communicate technical topics, tradeoffs, delivery risks, and implementation choices to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to architecture and design discussions with attention to maintainability, operability, and long-term team productivity.
  • Write high-quality code, tests, and technical documentation, and provide code reviews that improve team output.
  • Support and mentor less experienced engineers through feedback, onboarding, and day-to-day collaboration.
