Sr Forward Deployment Engineer

T-Mobile•Bellevue, WA

About The Position

The Senior Engineer, Forward Deployment is an experienced technical practitioner who embeds within a T-Mobile business unit and works with greater autonomy than an Engineer FDE. The Senior FDE drives the technical agenda for new agentic AI delivery, mentors Engineers deployed alongside them, and may act as domain lead. The role combines hands-on engineering with emerging leadership accountability, and performance is measured by validated return on investment outcomes and the quality and impact of the supported delivery team. The position reports to the Manager or Senior Manager, Forward Deployment Engineer within the assigned domain. The role designs and delivers agentic AI systems in production, including integrations, RAG pipelines, prompt orchestration layers, and multi-agent workflows tailored to business-unit needs. It leads discovery and scoping with business stakeholders, assesses workflows and data readiness, runs controlled A/B experiments, and documents measurable outcomes. It also develops integration layers and data pipelines, addresses data quality gaps, mentors Engineers, contributes to practice reporting and methodology, and transfers structured engineering insights to the broader practice. The Senior FDE independently owns domain scoping, technical agenda, end-to-end solution architecture and delivery, integration architecture, reusable patterns, domain reporting, and measured ROI outcomes. The role makes independent design decisions across the agentic stack, leads engineering handoffs, and contributes case studies and to FDE playbook development. Travel is required. This is not a DOT-regulated or safety-sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or relevant equivalent experience.
  • 4–7+ years of production engineering experience with hands-on LLM deployment, including prompt engineering, RAG architecture, and agent orchestration.
  • Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and deliver measurable AI outcomes.
  • Experience building system integrations with enterprise data sources.
  • Strong production Python engineering skills and proficiency in at least one additional language: Go, TypeScript, or Java.
  • Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based systems, including prompt engineering, RAG architecture, agent orchestration, hallucination mitigation, and performance benchmarking.
  • Proficiency in complex SQL, ETL/ELT pipeline design, and integrations connecting AI solutions to enterprise and telecom data sources.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure/GCP.
  • Ability to instrument deployed systems with real-time logging and feedback collection.
  • Ability to lead technical delivery and mentor engineers in ambiguous environments, adapting communication to business partners and leadership.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, security, and responsible AI principles; ability to build guardrails and compliance considerations into agentic solutions.
  • Understanding of T-Mobile data classification standards and appropriate handling of sensitive data.
  • Ability to embed within a business unit, build partner trust, and deliver working AI systems under real operational constraints.
  • Ability to translate engineering tradeoffs into plain-language business impact and vague business needs into precise engineering requirements.
  • Experience moving rapidly from proof of concept to production-grade delivery and hardening prototypes without unnecessary re-architecture.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • 7–10+ years of prior experience in solutions engineering, embedded technical work, or a forward deployment role.
  • Track record of delivering AI solutions that measurably improved a business outcome metric.
  • Experience navigating stakeholder environments from business-unit operators to middle management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead scoping and diagnostic sessions with business-unit stakeholders and TPMs to define requirements, map workflows, and assess data and integration readiness.
  • Drive the technical agenda for new agentic AI delivery within the assigned business domain.
  • Design, build, and deliver agentic AI solutions in live production environments, including integrations, RAG pipelines, prompt orchestration, and multi-agent workflows.
  • Run controlled A/B experiments and document measured return on investment impact.
  • Build integration layers connecting AI solutions to business-unit tools and data sources, and normalize datasets for AI system consumption.
  • Identify and address data quality gaps, determine remediation approaches, and provide domain-specific insights through structured engineering handoffs.
  • Maintain working relationships with business-unit managers and communicate delivery progress and milestones to stakeholders and middle management.
  • Mentor and technically guide Engineers deployed in the same domain through code review, solution feedback, and coaching on delivery standards.
  • Support onboarding of FDEs rotating into the domain and contribute to FDE practice methodology.
  • Contribute to practice reporting, delivery planning, rotation planning, and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Document failure modes, edge cases, and performance gaps in a structured format.
  • Own end-to-end solution architecture and delivery, make independent design decisions across the agentic stack, and define reusable domain patterns.
  • Own the domain-level reporting narrative, synthesize Engineer inputs into practice-level insights, author domain case studies, and contribute to FDE playbook development.
  • Apply data privacy, security, and responsible AI principles; incorporate guardrails and compliance considerations into system design and deployment.
  • Instrument deployed systems with real-time logging and feedback collection and bring prototypes to production readiness.
