Senior Engineer - DevOps

Hard Rock Digital•United States, FL

About The Position

Hard Rock Digital is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join its Product & Technology organization and help build and scale the internal developer platform that supports its gaming and entertainment products. This platform engineering role focuses on designing self-service workflows, golden paths, and developer tooling on Backstage so engineering teams can deliver software faster and more safely. The role combines internal developer platform development with cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, security, and developer experience. The engineer will partner with product engineering and other teams to turn their pain points into self-service capabilities for provisioning, environments, delivery pipelines, and observability. The position also expects fluent, practical use of AI coding assistants, agentic tooling, and LLM-powered workflows to accelerate platform development and help the broader team adopt AI-enabled ways of working.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar roles, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Hands-on experience building or operating an internal developer platform; Backstage is strongly preferred, including catalog design, software templates, and custom plugin development.
  • A track record of designing self-service workflows and golden paths that reduce toil and ticket volume for product engineering teams.
  • Expert-level knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architectures, including multi-account setups, VPC design, IAM policies, and networking.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes, preferably EKS, Docker, and Helm.
  • Advanced Infrastructure as Code expertise with Terraform/Terragrunt and deep understanding of modular design and reusability for self-service consumption.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation with Python, Bash, TypeScript/Node.js, or other relevant languages.
  • Experience leading CI/CD initiatives and designing scalable, self-service delivery pipelines with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or comparable tools.
  • Strong understanding of observability practices and performance monitoring frameworks such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, or Datadog.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking, security hardening, and compliance in regulated industries, including experience embedding these as automated guardrails.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor, including practical experience integrating AI assistants into infrastructure workflows, platform tooling, code review, incident response, or documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Backstage for an internal developer platform.
  • AWS Professional Certification, such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or SysOps Administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate the internal developer platform on Backstage, including its software catalog, templates, plugins, and scorecards.
  • Create golden-path templates and self-service workflows using Backstage Software Templates, Terraform/Terragrunt modules, and CI/CD scaffolding.
  • Architect and implement scalable AWS and hybrid-cloud infrastructure using Terraform/Terragrunt and related Infrastructure as Code tools, exposing capabilities through self-service platform interfaces.
  • Design, build, and optimize highly available containerized environments using EKS, Kubernetes, and Docker, and make them available as platform primitives.
  • Lead CI/CD automation strategy and build reusable, self-service pipeline patterns using TeamCity, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar tools.
  • Embed security and compliance guardrails, identity and access controls, and policy-as-code into the self-service platform.
  • Partner with product engineering, SRE, QA, security, and operations teams to identify friction and develop platform capabilities that improve developer experience and velocity.
  • Define and track developer experience and platform adoption metrics, including lead time, self-service usage, and ticket deflection.
  • Use AI coding assistants, agentic automation, and LLM-powered tooling to accelerate platform delivery, generate and review Backstage plugins and templates, and support AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across cross-functional teams.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay and benefits
  • Flexible vacation allowance
  • A hybrid / remote working environment
  • Startup culture backed by a secure, global brand
