About The Position

As a DevOps Engineer, you will maintain and improve the tools and services used by the company’s teams, making them reliable, secure, and easy to use. Many are open-source, containerized services. You will also improve software build, test, and delivery processes through automation, faster feedback, and a dependable CI/CD system for developers working in C++, Python, and JavaScript. The infrastructure is primarily operated by the company on-premises and in co-location facilities, with some services hosted in the cloud, mainly on AWS and Azure. You will work closely with software engineers, system administrators, and the current DevOps Engineer. The role shares ownership of internal tools and services, the CI/CD system, and the infrastructure supporting them, both on-premises and in the cloud. This is joint ownership rather than a ticket queue: you are expected to collaborate on decisions and drive topics end to end. The role can be performed remotely from anywhere in Germany; the Munich area is preferred. The company offers flexible working hours and a hybrid work model.

Requirements

  • Experience defining and maintaining infrastructure with Terraform or OpenTofu.
  • Experience with configuration management using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience building and operating containers with Docker, Podman, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one CI/CD platform; experience with TeamCity, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or a comparable system is relevant.
  • Good scripting skills in Bash, PowerShell, and Python.
  • Experience administering Linux and Windows systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and services, ideally AWS or Azure, or willingness to learn and take on operational responsibilities in these environments.
  • Good English skills.

Nice To Haves

  • German language skills.
  • Experience building C++ applications using CMake, Bazel, and/or Conan.
  • Experience with package and environment managers such as uv, pip, and npm.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms, ideally Proxmox.
  • Experience managing a GPU cluster, for example using Slurm.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, OpenTelemetry, or Prometheus/Grafana.
  • Experience administering Mac systems.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, operate, and maintain internal tools and services, including containerized services running on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Continually improve the CI system, including its server, agents, and surrounding setup.
  • Develop and maintain CI build configurations for C++, Python, and JavaScript applications, keeping builds and tests fast, modular, and predictable.
  • Define, provision, and maintain on-premises and cloud infrastructure using infrastructure as code.
  • Improve the reliability, maintainability, and security of internal tools, the CI system, and the infrastructure they run on.
  • Automate recurring tasks and manage infrastructure and configurations reproducibly and under version control.
  • Share responsibility for internal tools and services, CI/CD, and their supporting infrastructure, and drive topics end to end.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours.
  • A hybrid work model.
  • Ownership, opportunities to contribute ideas and take responsibility, and support for growing technical expertise.
  • Pragmatic and collaborative work with short decision-making paths and little unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • A collaborative, open-minded team that supports one another.
