About The Position

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior Energy Consultant for its Consulting group. This remote/virtual position, open to candidates anywhere in the United States, will involve working on project teams that provide a wide range of services. These services include technical consulting and advisory for new utility-scale solar, wind, gas, and battery energy storage projects; independent engineering and due diligence for lenders and investors; technical, economic, and market studies for grid operators, utilities, and research agencies; and planning studies and business case development for various entities. The role is being added to support the growth in renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning/advisory areas. The position requires significant interaction with clients, lenders, and investors, and operates within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering (other engineering disciplines may be considered).
  • 12 or more years of experience in the power industry.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Design of utility-scale solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage projects; Independent engineering and due diligence services for power projects; Power project development; Solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage construction management.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Experience writing technical reports and proposals.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.
  • Project planning and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline or business (e.g., MBA).
  • Experience in project finance or financial modeling of power projects.
  • Experience with owner’s engineering activities during power project execution.
  • Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies (data, automation, AI, digital tools) where relevant to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consulting and advisory services to power project developers for new utility-scale solar, wind, gas, and battery energy storage projects.
  • Conduct independent engineering and due diligence services for lenders and investors to evaluate the financing of new power and infrastructure projects.
  • Perform technical, economic, and market studies for grid operators, utilities, and research agencies.
  • Develop planning studies and business cases for utilities, independent power producers, and government agencies.
  • Engage in face-to-face interaction with power plant developers, owners, lenders, and investors during the execution of consulting services.
