About The Position

SAIC is hiring a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support its Precision Fires team and the Aviation and Missile Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The position is onsite at Redstone Arsenal and involves designing, developing, documenting, testing, and debugging embedded applications and systems that provide low-level control of electronic, electromechanical, and electro-optic equipment. The work includes software for real-time and near-real-time operating systems and processors, including networking and radio systems, and requires basic ability to read schematics of complex electronic assemblies. The engineer conducts multidisciplinary research and works with equipment designers and hardware engineers to plan, design, develop, and use electronic data-processing systems. Duties can include determining user needs, analyzing system capabilities and resolving problems, preparing operating instructions, developing compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems, and ensuring software standards are met. The role receives objectives and independently establishes goals and approaches to meet them, working under general direction. It involves solving difficult technical problems, contributing to program and project completion, and representing the organization in technical discussions with internal groups and external customers. Work is reviewed for adequacy against objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five or more years of experience, or six additional years of experience in lieu of a degree, as permitted by the contract vehicle.
  • Must possess an active Secret Security Clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • LabVIEW experience, including knowledge and implementation of LabVIEW best practices and LabVIEW object-oriented programming.
  • Understanding of source revision control and code reviews.
  • Ability to design systems that simplify end-user use and configuration.
  • Ability to design systems to maximize uptime and reduce maintenance by minimizing code duplication, reducing inter-component coupling, and properly verifying and testing hardware and software components.
  • Ability to work autonomously, identify personnel whose support is needed, and communicate with them to obtain that support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and customers.
  • Basic knowledge of reading schematics of complex electronic assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug embedded applications and systems involving low-level control processing.
  • Develop embedded software for real-time and near-real-time operating systems and processors, including networking and radio systems.
  • Collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers on electronic data-processing systems.
  • Determine computer user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve problems involving program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
  • Prepare operating instructions and develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Ensure software standards are met.
  • Independently determine and develop approaches to technical solutions and contribute to completing programs and projects.
  • Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues and communicate with internal organizations and outside customers.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, results, and findings, and format information into accessible procedures or knowledge bases where applicable.
  • Debug combined hardware and software systems systematically by tracing possible causes through each link in a failure chain.
