Senior Electrical Engineering Consultant -- Renewable Energy
About The Position
Sargent & Lundy is seeking a detail-oriented professional with solar and battery energy storage electrical engineering design experience to join their Consulting group as an Electrical Engineering Lead for renewable energy projects. This role supports the growth of the consulting group, particularly in renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning/advisory areas. The position involves significant client interaction with power plant developers, owners, lenders, and investors. The work environment is fast-paced, dynamic, and interesting. The role requires leading owner's engineer engagements for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects for electric utilities and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering design of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects as part of EPC team or Owner’s Engineer
- Evidence of at least one utility scale project direct engineering experience during development of IFC design
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others

- Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows
Responsibilities
- Preparing solar and battery energy storage EPC RFP packages and associated technical specifications
- Evaluating EPC proposals to assist selection of preferred EPC contractors
- Providing technical support during negotiations of EPC contract
- Preparing or reviewing specifications for key equipment such as main power transformer, BESS/ PV collection system components
- Reviewing EPC contractor’s electrical engineering design drawing packages and supporting calculations
- Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
- Leading others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Directing automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
