About The Position

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Electrical Engineering Consultant for their Consulting group, focusing on renewable energy projects. This role involves leading electrical engineering design for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects, working with clients across the United States and internationally. The position requires significant interaction with power plant developers, owners, lenders, and investors in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The consultant will serve as the electrical engineering lead for owner's engineer engagements, preparing RFP packages, evaluating proposals, providing technical support during contract negotiations, and reviewing equipment specifications and design drawings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering design of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects as part of an EPC team or Owner’s Engineer.
  • Evidence of at least one utility-scale project direct engineering experience during the development of IFC design.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.
  • Willingness or ability to lead others in using modern tools such as automation and AI.
  • No sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the electrical engineering lead for owner’s engineer engagements for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Prepare solar and battery energy storage EPC RFP packages and associated technical specifications.
  • Evaluate EPC proposals to assist in the selection of preferred EPC contractors.
  • Provide technical support during negotiations of EPC contracts.
  • Prepare or review specifications for key equipment such as main power transformers, BESS/PV collection system components.
  • Review EPC contractor’s electrical engineering design drawing packages and supporting calculations.
  • Oversee engineers in using data, automation, and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation.
  • Guide when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used, ensuring results are checked.
