About The Position

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer for its Electrical Engineering unit within the Engineering/Architecture Design Division. The group supports planning and design across transportation assets including airports, ports, ferries, tunnels, bridges, rail systems, and bus terminals. The electrical design group provides engineering services and prepares preliminary and final documents for planning, design, construction, and operation of electrical and electronics assets at Port Authority facilities. The position is located at 4WTC and reports to a Principal or Senior Principal Engineer. The engineer will design power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems; supervise technical staff and consultants; prepare engineering studies, master plans, system designs, design-build documents, contract drawings, specifications, and cost estimates; evaluate project scopes and system concepts; develop design criteria; and ensure quality, schedules, and budgets. The role also includes advising facility and Port Authority personnel, auditing consultant designs, and leading project teams through the Agency’s project delivery process (Stages I to IV). The Senior Electrical Engineer leads multidisciplinary design teams, coordinates proposals and design work, reports on schedules and budgets, and briefs senior staff. The engineer prepares preliminary and detailed designs and construction estimates for new electrical systems and alterations to existing structures and utility systems; develops conceptual designs for capital projects and major work programs; and presents design alternatives and costs to client departments. The role oversees consultant engineers, junior engineers, and CAD personnel; performs technical and economic analyses; coordinates designs with other disciplines, facility departments, utilities, manufacturers, and contractors; and checks consultant work for scope, code, standards, and budget compliance. The engineer maintains knowledge of current technologies and equipment, including power distribution, microprocessor-based controls, lighting, fire alarm, security, UPS, and variable speed drives. The position also participates in field commissioning, testing, startup, and troubleshooting, and ensures system technical integrity, contract compliance, safety, efficient operation, maintainability, and minimal downtime. The role permits remote work up to one day per week; regular in-office and team collaboration days may be required.
