About The Position

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Ogden, Utah, to support the U.S. Air Force Sentinel program during its Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase. Bechtel is part of the Northrop Grumman team delivering the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile system and launch infrastructure, providing launch system design, construction, and integration. The engineer will prepare designs for electrical systems associated with Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force projects. The role includes conducting field investigations and client interviews to determine scope and cost estimates; leading the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes; and making recommendations to resolve technical issues and meet complex project requirements. Depending on level, the position applies standard electrical engineering methods to smaller assignments or independently plans and conducts work on medium-sized assignments. The engineer will coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, vendors, contractors, construction, and functional groups, and support estimates, staffing plans, schedules, design development, and project requirements. Electrical design work includes engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, evaluations, power-system modeling, facility calculations, and equipment-sizing calculations.

  • United States citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Relevant experience preparing drawings, calculations, and specifications for electrical systems and equipment in nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and other common computer programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use engineering and office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and strong knowledge of electrical systems relevant to the responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, system calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.
  • Strong knowledge of power-system load modeling and analysis.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills, problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and interest in innovating designs.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, and apply electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria for project assignments.
  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate electrical components and processes using applicable procedures, design standards, guides, and Bechtel standard application programs.
  • Prepare or assist with studies, designs, reports, proposals, engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations.
  • Coordinate electrical engineering efforts with other disciplines, clients, vendors, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
  • Assist project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements.
  • Plan and conduct independent electrical engineering work, applying judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting engineering techniques and criteria.
  • Support preparation of estimates, staffing needs, and schedules; prepare or oversee discipline estimates and work plans aligned with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate with client representatives to obtain approvals as directed.
  • Develop electrical system and equipment designs for the Sentinel project in accordance with procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Develop design drawings, including single-line diagrams, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, and cathodic protection drawings.
  • Perform power-system analysis modeling and calculations using ETAP, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, relay coordination, and arc flash analyses.
  • Perform facility calculations, including lighting design, facility ground-grid sizing, and underground cable thermal derating analysis.
  • Perform equipment-sizing calculations for items such as transformers, panelboards, uninterruptible power supplies, and batteries.
  • Conduct field investigations and client interviews to establish electrical project scope and cost estimates.
  • Make recommendations to resolve technical issues and ensure complex electrical engineering requirements are met.
