We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support refurbishment projects at the Kemano Hydroelectric Power Station, one of British Columbia’s most critical power assets, representing the Owner and supporting the team through project development, execution and commissioning. This is a great opportunity for a collaborative and pragmatic engineer to work hands-on with critical hydroelectric assets and play an influential role of a major rebuild project at a world-class 975 MW power station. The role is based at the Kemano camp and follows a Tuesday to Friday work schedule. Kemano is located approximately 80 km from Kitimat, with employee transportation to and from site provided by boat at the start and end of each rotation. Transportation is provided from Kitimat only, and this position is not a fly-in-fly-out arrangement. Reporting to the Manager and working in a collaborative community within the Kemano Power Operations Department, you will be:

Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Candidates who are not registered but who bring relevant experience may be considered at an appropriate level
  • Progressive, hands-on electrical engineering experience, including commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting and operational decision-making in power generation or heavy industrial environments
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment in hydroelectric facilities, including protection & control, digital control systems, and applicable industry standards and regulations
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in small, site-based teams, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability

Responsibilities

  • Embedding Rio Tinto HSEC standards into all engineering decisions, designs, field activities and contractor engagements
  • Applying hydroelectric generation standards, codes and regulatory requirements to ensure compliant solutions
  • Defining user requirements and establishing inspection scope and deliverables
  • Providing technical oversight through design reviews, drawing reviews and engineering study recommendations
  • Supporting engineering service providers across project phases
  • Participating in risk analysis and constructability workshops
  • Providing safety, technical and coordination support during field inspections and testing activities
  • Validating, approving and signing off inspection and Factory Acceptance Test results

  • The base salary range for this role is $116,000 - $174,000 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto.
