About The Position

SAIC is seeking a senior electronics engineer to serve as a subject matter expert on a team in Crane, Indiana. The role supports the engineering, testing, and sustainment of radar systems used by the U.S. Navy, contributing to projects involving the development, maintenance, and documentation of systems critical to national defense. The position focuses on designing, developing, integrating, verifying, and documenting automated test sets for complex electronic and RF systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience as an electronics engineer.
  • Significant experience in automated test set design and development.
  • Demonstrated experience in RF systems and RF test engineering.
  • Experience defining test architectures and strategies for system-level, sub-assembly, and component-level testing.
  • Experience selecting and integrating test instruments such as VNAs, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, switch matrices, and controllers.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Test Requirements Documents (TRDs), test procedures, and Test Program Sets (TPS).
  • Experience designing and documenting test equipment hardware and software configurations as part of a Technical Data Package (TDP).
  • Strong RF engineering background, including RF component- and system-level behavior, signal integrity, and S-parameters.
  • Hands-on experience using Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) to characterize RF components and assemblies.
  • Experience testing RF amplifiers, including gain, linearity, noise figure, power output, stability, and related metrics.
  • Experience designing and implementing RF test fixtures, including impedance matching, connectorization, and shielding considerations.
  • Experience designing or implementing RF switch matrix solutions for automated test environments.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB for data analysis, signal processing, and test automation.
  • Demonstrated experience with object-oriented programming concepts and implementation, such as MATLAB OOP, Python, C++, or similar.
  • Ability to produce high-quality engineering documentation and technical data, and to clearly document test configurations, limits, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Ability to present technical concepts, trade studies, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a senior engineer or subject matter expert in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to lead test set development activities, including planning, task breakdown, and technical risk identification.
  • Familiarity with formal systems engineering and test engineering processes, including requirements, design, verification, and validation.
  • Experience working within structured engineering lifecycles and configuration control of test systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and validate automated test sets for complex electronic and RF systems.
  • Define test architectures and strategies for system-level, sub-assembly, and component-level testing.
  • Select and integrate test instruments, including VNAs, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, switch matrices, and controllers.
  • Develop and maintain Test Requirements Documents (TRDs), test procedures, and Test Program Sets (TPS).
  • Design and document hardware and software configurations for test equipment as part of Technical Data Packages (TDPs).
  • Develop test set verification plans, including test coverage analyses, validation approaches, and acceptance criteria.
  • Plan and develop calibration support for RF test sets and instruments, including calibration procedures, standards, and intervals.
  • Ensure traceability of test requirements to system specifications and customer requirements.
  • Produce engineering documentation and technical data, including test set hardware and software design descriptions, TDPs, test procedures, user manuals, and calibration procedures.
  • Document test configurations, test limits, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Present technical concepts, trade studies, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers through activities such as code reviews, design reviews, and on-the-job training.
  • Lead aspects of test set development, including planning, task breakdown, and technical risk identification.
  • Work within formal systems engineering and test engineering processes, structured engineering lifecycles, and configuration control of test systems.
