SailFuture Academy is a private, nonprofit high school in St. Petersburg, Florida, dedicated to creating an exceptional educational model for system-involved youth and families facing extreme poverty. We aim to make education accessible to hard-to-reach youth, empowering them towards economic freedom and social mobility through a pragmatic high school experience. Our program includes foundational academic and character development (8th-10th grade), an in-house internship (11th grade), and an external apprenticeship (12th grade). A unique component is a 7-week international rite-of-passage sailing expedition on a 100’ school ship. The Senior Educator role is a leadership position for an experienced educator skilled in curriculum design, teacher development, and building impactful student relationships. This role involves owning the department's instructional program from its foundation, including designing project-based units, writing curriculum in collaboration with school leadership, and continuously refining classes. The Senior Educator will also serve as an instructional model for less experienced staff, demonstrating best practices in the classroom. SailFuture Academy follows a year-round, 5-term calendar, with each term lasting approximately eight weeks, followed by a two-week student break. Senior teachers receive seven weeks of paid time off annually, distributed across break periods and summer. A typical workday is from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with 10 to 15 hours of dedicated planning and grading time weekly. While time off offers flexibility, it requires strong self-management to meet curriculum development, preparation, and student-facing goals.
