About The Position

Huntsman is seeking a Senior Ecotoxicologist to support the Global EHS Division across various locations, with remote work being an option. This role reports to the Toxicology Team Manager. The senior ecotoxicologist will provide expert advice to all Huntsman businesses by applying professional judgment in ecotoxicology, exposure sciences, and regulatory compliance. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and registration of Huntsman products, conducting environmental risk assessments using hazard and exposure data, supporting evaluation and authorization processes, and ensuring the regulatory compliance of Huntsman products. A strong background in environmental science, including environmental risk assessment, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, and analytical chemistry, along with proven teamwork capabilities, is required. Laboratory experience in biodegradation and ecotoxicity testing is preferred. The candidate will design environmental testing and assessment strategies aimed at minimizing animal testing while ensuring product safety. Semi-frequent travel will be necessary to support the global team. The Senior Ecotoxicologist will operate with minimal supervision.

Requirements

Advanced Degree (Master/PhD) with 10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an international company in the chemical or pharmaceutical sector, or at a Contract Research Organization.
Extensive applied experience in regulatory ecotoxicology, risk assessment, and defense of self-classification and labelling (GHS, CLP).
Knowledge of ecotoxicological and environmental fate methods and guidelines, as well as the use of in silico tools (QSARs) and read across.
Extensive experience with EU REACH, TSCA, and Canada chemical registration.
Practical experience with relevant software tools such as OECD QSAR toolbox, IUCLID, CHESAR, easyTRA.
Experience with consortia and trade association work.
Fluency in English.
Ability to work with colleagues globally in a multi-cultural environment and in a hybrid setting.

Nice To Haves

Laboratory experiences on biodegradation and ecotoxicity testing are preferred.
Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing scientific teams, driving performance, collaboration, and results.
Professional certification as ecotoxicologist/environmental scientist is a plus.
Practical experience with China and Korea chemical registration is a plus.
Previous environmental lab experience on environmental safety assays is desirable.

Responsibilities

Support the three Huntsman divisions with environmental hazard and risk assessment expertise in all stages of product development (R&D of new chemicals/products and/or new markets and uses), understanding regional regulatory requirements (TSCA, REACH, Canada, Korea, China) and collaborating with regulatory specialists to ensure compliance.
Monitor external ecotoxicological/environmental fate studies, ensuring laboratory selection adheres to internal and external guidelines.
Utilize in silico tools (QSAR and read across) for screening, prioritization, and regulatory endpoint data submission.
Collaborate with colleagues to prepare dossier submissions in IUCLID or other formats, including the application of read-across approaches for environmental fate and ecotoxicity data requirements.
Serve as the technical lead for ecotoxicology-related issue management or substance defense, steering advocacy strategies with regulatory bodies and actively participating in discussions with global authorities.
Maintain technical expertise in ecotoxicology and risk assessment, staying updated on relevant regulations, legislation, and emerging environmental hazard issues, and communicating their impact to relevant Huntsman divisions.
Ensure ecotoxicological, environmental fate, and physical-chemical data used for product classification are scientifically evaluated, up-to-date, and maintained in Huntsman databases, proactively communicating changes and business implications to stakeholders.
Represent Huntsman in industry consortia and trade associations, actively participating in meetings and advising stakeholders on information that could influence Huntsman operations.
