The Success Coaching Program within Academic Advising was created in 2019 to fully support first-generation and/or limited-income (FLI) students, who now constitute approximately one-third of all undergraduate students. The program utilizes an intensive, appreciative, strengths-based advising model where staff serve as both advisors and coaches. They aim to improve student retention, completion, engagement, satisfaction, and social mobility. This role is responsible for the leadership, vision, and strategic direction of the program, meeting and reporting on its goals and outcomes, and directly supervising the Success Coaching and Academic Advising (SCAA) leadership team. The position directly oversees up to six SCAA staff members and a total staff of twenty-four, with support from a Senior Administrative Coordinator. The position reports to the Associate Vice Provost of Student Success and Retention Initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs. The Senior Director collaborates with Assistant Deans of Advising in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering to enhance collaboration between Student Success offices and other University Student Services (USS) offices. This role involves regular meetings with the Student Success leadership team, leading the holistic advising workgroup, and active participation in the Student Success Initiative/Achieving Success Action Plan (ASAP) Workgroup. The Senior Director's work aligns with the University's Student Success Strategic Plan, focusing on increasing timely graduation rates, building integrated services, optimizing data-driven learning, serving the greater good, activating institutional resources, and addressing barriers to student enrollment. The Senior Director is responsible for 24 full-time employees (FTEs), with potential for up to 27 FTEs, and supervises a team of professional staff embedded across multiple locations with dual accountability. The SCAA team includes Associate and Assistant Directors, Academic Advisor/Success Coaches, an Administrative Coordinator, and a Graduate Assistant. Currently, there are six direct reports.
