About The Position

The Senior Director, Accounting is responsible for leading the global revenue recognition function and ensuring the integrity, scalability, and compliance of revenue accounting practices across the Organization. This role provides executive oversight of revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 606), while partnering cross-functionally to support the company’s evolving business models. In addition to maintaining strong financial control, this position plays a critical role in supporting strategic initiatives - including the transition from perpetual licensing to subscription-based models and the expansion of Enterprise License Agreements (ELAs). This highly visible role leads a global Organization and serves as a key advisor to senior leadership, influencing business and commercial decisions through deep accounting expertise and forward-looking insight.

Requirements

  • CPA required
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant leadership responsibility in a complex, global Organization
  • Command of US GAAP required, with deep expertise in ASC 606 (revenue recognition) required
  • Proven experience leading a global accounting function and multi-layered teams and developing leaders
  • Software industry experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and shape business decisions in ambiguous and complex environments
  • Strong experience with financial systems, ERP environments, and global accounting processes and compliance with internal controls
  • Experience with revenue automation and subledger systems (e.g., Zuora, Oracle, Salesforce CPQ) preferred
  • Experience supporting strategic transformation initiatives (e.g., business model evolution, M&A, system transformation)
  • Experience with commercial deal desk, deal structuring, and partnering closely with the legal and commercial organization required
  • Audit experience with a Big Four or nationally recognized accounting firm preferred
  • Familiarity with multi-currency accounting and foreign exchange (FX) impacts on global revenue operations preferred
  • Ability to lead, develop and mentor a talented and capable team

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships to anticipate the financial and revenue recognition implications of business decisions in advance, ensuring consistent and predictable outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Legal, Business Units, and Finance teams to shape deal structures and pricing strategies in alignment with revenue recognition requirements.
  • Lead and influence enterprise-wide initiatives, including ERP transformation, process optimisation, and adoption of new accounting standards.
  • Own the design and continuous improvement of the order-to-cash revenue accounting process, including oversight of revenue automation systems, subledger configuration, and integration with the ERP environment.
  • Continually identify opportunities to drive efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve the quality and timeliness of financial insights.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior finance and business leaders, influencing decisions that have broad Organizational impact.
  • Own global revenue recognition policies and practices, ensuring compliance with US GAAP (ASC 606) across subscription, SaaS, perpetual licensing, and ELA arrangements.
  • Provide guidance and approval on complex and non-standard customer contracts, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Prepare and maintain technical accounting position memos covering complex revenue arrangements, including multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, standalone selling price (SSP) methodology, and contract modifications.
  • Oversee the integration of revenue recognition into the broader financial close and reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and scalability.
  • Partner with FP&A to ensure alignment between revenue accounting, financial reporting, and forecasting.
  • Maintain a strong control environment, including appropriate accruals, reserves, and reconciliations, deferred revenue, and contract assets, ensuring audit readiness at all times.
  • Lead accounting support for the company’s transition from perpetual licensing to subscription-based models, ensuring scalable and compliant revenue practices.
  • Support the expansion and optimisation of Enterprise License Agreements (ELAs), advising on structure, risk, and accounting implications.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate new business models, product offerings, and commercial strategies.
  • Ensure accounting implications are proactively identified and embedded into strategic decision-making.
  • Lead engagement with external auditors, serving as a primary point of contact for revenue recognition and broader accounting matters.
  • Contribute to Audit Committee reporting, providing clear insights on financial performance, risks, and control effectiveness.
  • Ensure the design and effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (SOX compliance standard).
  • Support corporate governance processes and ensure adherence to Rocket’s global standards.
  • Lead a global team ensuring strong execution and alignment across regions.
  • Develop and execute workforce strategies to ensure the Organization has the capability and capacity to support business growth.
  • Build a strong leadership bench, coaching and developing future leaders within the Organization.
