Director of Revenue Accounting

WunderkindNew York, NY
$150,000 - $185,000

About The Position

Wunderkind is seeking a Director of Revenue Accounting to serve as the end-to-end owner of the Company's revenue accounting, billing, and collections functions. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role leads a team of accounting professionals across the full order-to-cash lifecycle and serves as the primary technical resource on all things revenue — from contract review and ASC 606 compliance through invoicing, AR management, and cash collection. The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with deep expertise in ASC 606 and ASC 326. Wunderkind's revenue streams span across fixed (subscription-based) and variable revenue models — this role requires someone who can apply rigorous accounting judgment, manage the systems that support it, and communicate clearly across Finance, Sales, Legal, and external auditors. What sets this hire apart is not just technical depth — it's ownership. We're looking for someone who actively seeks out AI tools and emerging technologies to reimagine how revenue operations get done, with a proven track record of building scalable, audit-ready processes that operate at public-company-standard quality without losing the pace and adaptability this environment demands.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a focus on revenue accounting; Big 4 background preferred, or strong mix of public and industry experience
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Deep technical expertise in ASC 606 — including multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, SSP allocation, contract assets and liabilities, and usage-based revenue models — and ASC 326 (CECL)
  • Experience owning or managing billing operations, AR, and collections functions
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or comparable CRM and its integration with NetSuite
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a team
  • A builder's mindset and genuine curiosity about how AI and emerging technologies can transform how revenue operations get done
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex revenue positions clearly to auditors, legal, and senior leadership
  • Advanced Excel skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in SaaS or start-up company environments
  • Experience with NetSuite or comparable ERP system; ability to configure and maintain revenue arrangements and recognition rules within the ERP
  • Exposure to accounting for revenue with customers in foreign currencies
  • Experience supporting system implementations

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for all ASC 606 matters — applying the five-step model across both fixed (subscription-based) and variable revenue streams, maintaining SSP analyses, ensuring proper classification of contract assets and liabilities, and drafting technical memos and positions
  • Partner with Legal, Sales, and FP&A on new deal structures, contract modifications, and new product launches to assess accounting implications before execution; advise on and operationalize revenue recognition treatment from initial assessment through NetSuite configuration
  • Oversee the end-to-end billing process — ensuring the billing team timely and accurate invoice in accordance with contract terms, managing the Salesforce-to-NetSuite data flow, enforcing billing controls, and resolving disputes and credit memos in coordination with Sales and Customer Success
  • Manage the collections function including A/R aging oversight, dunning communications, and escalation management; monitor DSO, aging buckets, and bad debt exposure; own the CECL reserve analysis under ASC 326 in coordination with the Controller
  • Own the monthly revenue close including journal entries, reconciliations, customer-level deferred revenue rollforwards, and MoM variance analysis; support FP&A with revenue inputs for forecasting and investor reporting as needed
  • Maintain year-round audit-ready documentation across all revenue accounts; manage external auditor relationships on all revenue-related and order-to-cash matters; coordinate PBC schedules and respond to technical inquiries
  • Serve as the functional owner of NetSuite revenue modules — maintaining revenue arrangements, recognition rules, and SSP allocations; oversee integrations with Salesforce and billing/collections platforms
  • Identify and lead initiatives to automate manual accounting workflows within Revenue — not just incrementally improve them, but fundamentally redesign them for scale.
  • Directly manage a team of revenue accounting, billing, and collections professionals; build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement; invest in the professional development of direct reports
