About The Position

Ulteig is seeking a Senior Director, Renewables to lead its renewables-focused engineering business within the Renewables business unit (BU). This role oversees the execution of utility-scale wind, solar, energy storage, and related renewable energy projects, supported by teams of electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural engineers, technicians, designers, and project managers. Ulteig primarily serves developer, owner, and contractor clients in the Renewables Lifeline Sector. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to build and scale technical organizations, manage large departmental budgets, collaborate effectively across internal and external teams, and lead within an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) delivery environment. This role is responsible for strategic growth, operational performance, and delivery against the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), and is accountable for project execution across the departments within the Renewables Lifeline Sector. This role leads multiple departments led by high-performing directors and is accountable for building their leadership capability through intentional coaching, effective performance management, and consistent support. Success in this role requires a strong leader who can develop other leaders, elevate team effectiveness, and create the conditions for directors and their teams to perform at a high level. As a member of the Ulteig Leadership Team (ULT), the Senior Director partners with leaders at various levels to ensure organizational alignment and support execution of the company’s short- and long-term strategies, business plans, and objectives. The role also supports business development, client engagement, and proposal efforts for the Renewables BU, while partnering closely with Finance & Accounting, the Engineering Center of Excellence, other Lifeline Sectors, Human Resources, and Innovation & Technology, and other matrixed shared services functions as required. This role will report to the General Manager of the Renewables LLS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of industry experience and expertise.
  • 15 years of experience in engineering.
  • 8 years of experience in the Renewables market.
  • 8 years of leadership experience managing large teams; cross-disciplinary leadership experience is plus.
  • Strong technical capability and experience building client and partner relationships.
  • Ability to develop and manage operating budgets.
  • Strong business acumen and industry knowledge.
  • Analytical, self-motivated, and effective in high-pressure environments while maintaining a positive and collaborative approach.
  • Committed to employee engagement, and the professional development of others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships with employees, direct reports, leaders, clients, and external partners.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Authorization to work permanently in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Renewables EPC contractor clients is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and deliver targeted business results.
  • Drive operational performance across the department and support results across the broader BU, adjacent delivery units such as Power, and in alignment with Ulteig’s Operating Business.
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop and implement long-term Renewables strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of services, products, and solutions that meet client expectations.
  • Oversee managers responsible for engineering and technical activities during proposal development, design, quality control, and construction.
  • Guide department leaders in coordinating effectively with subconsultants and strategic partners.
  • Provide executive-level project and client support in partnership with team and market leaders.
  • Lead annual business planning and budgeting, including revenue, profitability, and indirect expense management.
  • Assess capacity and capabilities to inform workforce planning, enable cross-team and cross-location resourcing, and support performance, compensation, training, and professional development decisions.
  • Support enterprise hiring efforts through resume review, phone screening, interviews, debrief discussions, and partnership with Human Resources.
  • Partner with market leaders and professionals across the organization to drive revenue growth, manage costs, and expand services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Support proposal and contract efforts by providing resources and reviewing proposals, contracts, work orders, and related agreements as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Coach/manage/guide direct reports toward clear articulation of business need, balance and align with Ulteig operating model and organizational alignment.
  • Develop and implement policies, tools, resources, and processes that enable employee success and operational excellence.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the Project Management Center of Excellence and Engineering Center of Excellence to standardize and apply tools and processes that support successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with Finance & Accounting and Procurement to ensure business processes and tools effectively support the management, tracking, and reporting of projects involving equipment and inventory.
