About The Position

GlobalFoundries’ GF LABS organization drives differentiated technology innovation with a strategic horizon beyond two years. We collaborate closely with our businesses and ecosystem partners to define and execute medium- and long-range R&D programs. The quantum computing industry is transitioning from the ‘noisy intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) to utility scale quantum computing (USQC) and GF is uniquely positioned to champion this transition. We are seeking a driven executive to lead our Quantum Technology Development initiatives. This role is ideal for a seasoned technologist with a strong background in the integration and materials systems required to create quantum solutions and beneficial to have knowledge across quantum modalities—including superconducting, photonic, electron spin, ion trap, and neutral atom systems. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to a high-performing team, with a focus on building and scaling an at-scale quantum technology execution organization. The scope of the role covers broad aspects of quantum computing technology including cryo-CMOS and specific modalities.

Requirements

  • MS or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in semiconductor or quantum R&D.
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced semiconductor process integration, especially BEOL integration or photonics or quantum modalities in at least two of the following: superconducting qubits, silicon spin qubits, photonics, ion traps, or neutral atoms.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Willingness to travel 25+%

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge across quantum modalities—including superconducting, photonic, electron spin, ion trap, and neutral atom systems.
  • Proven Executive Leadership: Significant experience managing large, high-growth engineering organizations and complex strategic planning.
  • Large-Scale Project Management: Expert-level organizational skills with a track record of delivering complex hardware milestones.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex quantum concepts for executive-level stakeholders and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the GF Labs Quantum roadmap aligned with emerging industry needs and strategic customer engagements.
  • Lead the aggressive recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of an at-scale multidisciplinary team, including quantum physicists, integration and process engineers, design enablement engineers and project managers.
  • Lead planning and execution of customer joint development programs targeting the acceleration of quantum systems comprised of >1m qubits.
  • Build strategic partnerships with quantum materials/tools providers, research institutions and universities to solve fundamental materials and integration challenges.
  • Champion the value of quantum initiatives through clear communication of technical milestones and demonstrated ROI to business stakeholders.
  • Develop robust capabilities for cryo-operations, as quality and reliability at the system level will be driven by hardware reliability.
  • Oversee GF Labs Quantum Technology Solutions, including optimizing project scope and timelines for maximum strategic impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement in specialized quantum fabrication processes.
  • Establish OKR-driven management systems to track quantum hardware benchmarks.
  • Manage 8-quarter budget planning and performance for large-scale R&D.

Benefits

  • Equal opportunity in the workplace
  • Attraction and retention of highly qualified people
  • Reasonable accommodation for employment process
