About The Position

The Senior Director Program Management – AUG is engaged in a staff augmentation capacity to lead the overall Program Management Office (PMO) function for a strategic customer, ensuring programs and projects meet the client's organizational standards. This role sets PMO strategy, standards, and governance at the departmental-function level, mentors the client's project leaders, and works with other client department leaders to help implement the organization's strategic initiatives accurately. This role provides functional direction to the client's Program Management staff and other contracted resources. It partners with client senior leadership to prioritize and govern the enterprise portfolio of programs and projects, recommending major goals, policies, budget, and staffing approaches for the client's approval. Reports to the client's Director, Engineering and Managed IT for the duration of the engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 12 or more years progressive experience in a program management, consulting, operations, or related discipline
  • Proven leadership of enterprise program and project portfolios in complex, cross-functional, customer-facing environments
  • Track record managing program/portfolio budgets in the $10M+ range (or equivalent P&L responsibility)
  • Experience owning a program portfolio spanning multiple business units, with direct accountability to VP/SVP leadership
  • Demonstrated success leading through others — managing managers/directors, not just individual contributors, across direct and matrixed reporting lines
  • Deep expertise in portfolio, program, and project governance frameworks and best practices
  • Experience designing scalable PMO playbooks, templates, workflows, and reporting structures
  • Advanced risk identification, escalation management, and corrective action planning capabilities
  • Exceptional ability to align resources, priorities, and execution to strategic business objectives
  • Ability to translate strategic vision into executable roadmaps and measurable milestones
  • Change management and organizational transformation experience
  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, resource optimization, and earned value management (EVM)
  • Strong business and commercial acumen with the ability to align delivery to revenue and growth objectives
  • Contract and vendor management experience
  • Proficiency leveraging analytics and performance data to drive portfolio health and operational efficiency

Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall Program Management Office (PMO) in a staff augmentation capacity, ensuring the client's programs and projects meet the client's organizational standards
  • Establish overall direction and recommend strategic initiatives for the client's PMO function, in partnership with and subject to approval by client leadership
  • Develop and recommend PMO processes, policies, templates, and reporting standards, for approval and adoption by client leadership
  • Mentor the client's project leaders to improve processes, procedures, and standards based on the needs of individual programs
  • Work with other client department leaders to help implement the organization's strategic blueprints and initiatives accurately
  • Provide functional direction to the client's Program Management staff (Directors, Program Managers, Project Managers, and Coordinators) and other contracted resources supporting the PMO, without formal hiring, termination, or compensation authority
  • Partner with client senior/executive leadership to intake, prioritize, and govern the enterprise portfolio of programs and projects
  • Establish and maintain governance structures (steering committees, stage gates, milestone reviews) and monitor compliance with delivery standards across the client's portfolio
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to client executives, providing clear recommendations, constructive challenge, and objective assessments on program strategy and delivery
  • Maintain end-to-end visibility into portfolio health; proactively identify and escalate risks, issues, dependencies, and recovery plans to client leadership
  • Lead executive-level QBRs and stakeholder reporting on portfolio performance, risk trends, capacity, and budget recommendations, for client decision-making
  • Recommend major goals to support the client's broad functional objectives, and recommend policies for sub-functions and departments within the PMO, with final approval and authority retained by the client
  • Recommend budget, staffing, and resourcing approaches for the PMO function, with final approval and authority retained by the client
  • Lead post-program and post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and recommend continuous improvement practices
  • Define and track PMO KPIs (delivery predictability, throughput, quality, cycle time, resource efficiency) and report performance to client leadership
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in applying program and project management best practices consistent with client policy
