About The Position

Responsible for the security and public safety of all employees, riders and patrons of KCATA, including managing the security status, profile and equipment of the campus, transit facilities and assets of the Authority in Kansas and Missouri.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Transportation, or a related field
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of related work experience in Security Management/Law Enforcement.
  • An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
  • English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
  • Operations of a comprehensive law enforcement and security program.
  • Principles and practices of law enforcement and transit security.
  • Principles and practices of policy development and administration.
  • Public safety emergency operations and procedures.
  • Advanced methods and techniques of criminal investigations.
  • Policies and procedures governing uniform patrol services.
  • Methods and techniques of carrying and handling firearms in a safe manner.
  • Methods and techniques of crime prevention and control.
  • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Related Federal, State and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Manages the security posture of the Agency by employment and supervision of the contract security force and internal controls and contacts.
  • Manages the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area.
  • Assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships. Identifies opportunities for improvement; directs and implements changes.
  • Coordinates criminal investigations and associated activities. Ensures adherence to established investigative techniques and procedures.
  • Coordinates division activities and works in conjunction with other police departments, criminal justice agencies, and emergency public assistance services.
  • Develops, implements, and promotes crime prevention procedures for KCATA operations.
  • Oversees and participates in the development and administration of the department budget; approves the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies. Approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.
  • Represents the Transit Security and Police Services to other departments, elected officials, and outside agencies. Coordinates assigned activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations.
  • Participates on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees. Prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings. Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of law enforcement and Transit Security.
