About The Position

We're looking for a Senior Director of Experience and Design to lead and elevate the design practice at isolved. This is a hands-on leadership role - you'll be a player-coach who sets the vision for user experience across our product suite while staying close to the craft. You'll inherit a small, talented team and a real opportunity to build something lasting: a coherent design system, a stronger design culture, and a UX practice that has a seat at the product strategy table. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. You'll be in the work, setting the standard, and shipping alongside your team. This is a defining moment for design at isolved. The person who takes this role won't be maintaining the status quo - they'll be setting a new standard. We're not looking for incremental improvement; we're looking for someone who will fundamentally raise what's possible for our users and our product.

Requirements

  • A craft-forward designer with 10+ years of experience who is technical enough to engage credibly with engineering - you can read code, understand infrastructure constraints, and translate technical limitations into smart design decisions without needing to write the code yourself
  • Proven experience building or significantly maturing a design system - you've done this before and can show the work
  • Experience with enterprise or B2B SaaS products; comfort with high-complexity, multi-module platforms
  • Strong cross-functional influence - you know how to move product and engineering without direct authority
  • A player-coach mindset: you're energized by leading a team and staying close to the design work - hands-on with craft, not with code
  • Experience delivering under executive or board-level scrutiny, with the judgment to make smart tradeoffs when timelines are tight
  • Excellent communication skills - you can articulate design decisions to executives as clearly as to fellow designers

Nice To Haves

  • Background in HCM, HR tech, payroll, or similarly complex regulated industries
  • Experience scaling a UX team from small to mid-size
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the UX vision across isolved's product suite, ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience for our users
  • Build and mature a design system from the ground up - establishing patterns, components, and standards that scale across a complex, multi-product platform
  • Lead and grow a small UX team, coaching designers on craft, process, and impact
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to embed UX thinking early in the development process
  • Champion user research and data-informed design decisions across the organization
  • Lead UX delivery on high-priority, board-funded initiatives - balancing quality with real timelines and executive accountability
  • Establish design standards and review processes that raise the bar across all product areas
