About The Position

Bully Pulpit International (BPI) is seeking a Senior Director of Audience & Community to build and steward the community for A Day of Unreasonable Conversation (UC), an annual summit that fosters discourse on urgent issues by bridging the entertainment industry and social impact sectors. This role reports directly to the Executive Director and owns the full audience function, including strategy, curation, CRM, outreach, guest experience, day-of execution, and long-term relationship building. The goal is to treat the audience as a strategic asset and a living network, building and running this function with authority and minimal oversight. The role also involves activating the community throughout the year via smaller convenings, fellowships, editorial touchpoints, and ongoing relationship stewardship. Curation is paramount, ensuring genuine diversity across perspectives, creative backgrounds, and industry positions.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years in audience development, community strategy, membership, partnerships, or relationship-driven leadership roles in media, entertainment, philanthropy, or live experiences.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and stewarding communities and networks over time.
  • Proven success building and activating communities, turning participants into long-term collaborators, contributors, and ambassadors.
  • Senior-level decision-making authority across audience development and management.
  • Deep knowledge of the entertainment and social-impact ecosystem with genuine relationships across relevant sectors.
  • Excellent judgment and creative instincts for audience curation.
  • Experience integrating relationship management with hospitality operations.
  • Hands-on experience building and owning a CRM or audience platform as a year-round relationship management system.
  • Comfortable directing and briefing creative execution, including briefing designers and providing feedback.
  • Exceptional systems thinker with strong project management instincts.
  • Rigorous attention to detail and reporting discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, hitting deadlines and driving work forward.
  • Comfortable owning ambiguity and defining scope, building new functions with established guardrails.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work in an intensive event environment with significant focus and availability in the weeks leading into the convening.
  • Must be able to be on-site in Los Angeles for event pre-production and the convening (April 4–6).

Responsibilities

  • Own the audience composition strategy, curating approximately 500 guests from the entertainment industry and social impact sector for the annual convening.
  • Lead audience strategy for three Evenings of Unreasonable Conversations, curating intimate gatherings to introduce new voices and deepen relationships.
  • Develop audience engagement strategies for various community segments (returning attendees, fellows, funders, etc.) to ensure meaningful engagement throughout the year.
  • Build and maintain an ecosystem map of aligned organizations, nurturing relationships to expand and strengthen the community.
  • Execute a tiered outreach and room-design strategy, managing invitation rollouts against defined room-mix targets.
  • Own the CRM and audience database as a strategic system, moving the function to an integrated platform for relationship tracking.
  • Design a multi-stakeholder reporting structure with dashboards and metrics for clear insights.
  • Maintain live tracking and report progress on RSVP health, room mix, VIP allocation, and flake rates.
  • Serve as the senior owner of cross-functional audience alignment, ensuring audience decisions tie to broader program goals.
  • Define and track outcome KPIs, including guest satisfaction, repeat engagement, and year-over-year retention.
  • Track year-round community health through participation in Evenings, fellowships, editorial engagement, and repeat attendance.
  • Run structured, proactive workflows for outreach calendars, invitation processes, and templates.
  • Own the working relationship with the graphic designer for audience-facing communications.
  • Bridge audience development and day-of guest experience, designing the full guest journey.
  • Develop the audience logistics packet and manage partner fulfillment for guests of funders, speakers, and partners.
  • Own day-of audience operations, including registration, check-in, VIP handling, seating, and live audience issue resolution.
  • Lead post-event learning and long-term relationship building through surveys, feedback analysis, and follow-up strategies.
  • Develop and execute a year-round audience engagement calendar with editorial updates, digital briefings, and community check-ins.
  • Build and steward a curated network of 'UC Friendlies' (writers, creators, executives, etc.) for year-round activation.
