About The Position

Bully Pulpit International (BPI) is seeking a Senior Director of Audience & Community to build and steward the community for 'A Day of Unreasonable Conversation' (UC). This role reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for the full audience function, including strategy, curation, CRM, outreach, guest experience, day-of execution, and long-term relationship building. The Senior Director will treat the audience as a strategic asset and a living network, building and running this function with authority and minimal oversight. Beyond the annual summit, the role involves activating the community year-round through smaller events, fellowships, editorial content, and ongoing relationship management to maintain connections between convenings. Curation is paramount, ensuring diversity in perspectives, creative backgrounds, and industry positions.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years in audience development, community strategy, membership, partnerships, or relationship-driven leadership roles in media, entertainment, philanthropy, or live experiences.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and stewarding communities and networks over time.
  • Ability to turn participants into long-term collaborators, contributors, and ambassadors.
  • Senior enough to hold real decision-making authority across audience development and management.
  • Deep knowledge of the entertainment and social-impact ecosystem with genuine relationships across relevant sectors.
  • Excellent judgment and creative instincts for audience curation.
  • Experience integrating relationship management with hospitality operations.
  • Hands-on experience building and owning a CRM or audience platform as a year-round relationship management system.
  • Ability to direct and brief creative execution, including briefing designers and providing feedback on drafts.
  • Exceptional systems thinker with strong project management instincts.
  • Rigorous attention to detail and reporting discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, hitting deadlines and driving work forward.
  • Comfortable owning ambiguity and defining scope.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an intensive event environment with significant focus and availability in the weeks leading up to the convening.
  • Must be able to be on-site in Los Angeles for event pre-production and the convening (April 4–6).

Responsibilities

  • Own the audience composition strategy and curate approximately 500 guests for the annual summit, ensuring a mix of entertainment industry professionals and social impact leaders.
  • Lead audience strategy for three 'Evenings of Unreasonable Conversations' to introduce new voices and deepen existing relationships.
  • Develop and execute audience engagement strategies for various community segments.
  • Build and maintain a living map of aligned organizations and relationships within the entertainment and social impact sectors.
  • Run a tiered outreach and room-design strategy, identifying hub connectors for attendee recruitment.
  • Own the CRM and audience database as a strategic system for registration, segmentation, and relationship tracking.
  • Design and manage a multi-stakeholder reporting structure with dashboards and metrics for leadership and funders.
  • Maintain live tracking of RSVP health, room mix, VIP allocation, and report progress regularly.
  • Serve as the senior owner of cross-functional audience alignment with Talent, Editorial, Fundraising, Fellowships, and Production teams.
  • Define and track outcome KPIs, including guest satisfaction, repeat engagement, and year-over-year retention.
  • Track year-round community health through participation in events, fellowships, editorial engagement, and other indicators.
  • Run structured, proactive workflows for the outreach calendar, invitation processes, and templates.
  • Own the working relationship with the graphic designer for audience-facing communications.
  • Bridge audience development and day-of guest experience, designing the full guest journey.
  • Develop the audience logistics packet and manage partner fulfillment for VIPs and key partners.
  • Own day-of audience operations, including registration, check-in, VIP handling, seating, and live audience issue resolution.
  • Lead post-event learning and long-term relationship building through survey distribution, feedback analysis, and follow-up strategies.
  • Develop and execute a year-round audience engagement calendar with editorial updates, digital briefings, and community check-ins.
  • Build and steward a curated network of 'UC Friendlies' for year-round activation.
