Senior Director Laboratory Operations Management
About The Position
We are seeking an experienced Senior Director, Laboratory Operations Management to provide strategic and operational leadership across clinical laboratory services. This role is ideal for a seasoned healthcare laboratory leader with a strong background in operations, quality, regulatory compliance, workforce development, and process improvement. The Senior Director will oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, lead credentialed and non-credentialed teams, drive operational excellence, and ensure accurate, timely laboratory reporting while maintaining the highest standards for quality, safety, compliance, and accreditation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare, or a related field plus 12+ years of experience in medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or healthcare; OR 15+ years of experience in medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or healthcare.
- 5+ years of leadership experience with direct reports in a healthcare environment.
- 4+ years of experience managing operational or project budgets.

Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across multiple laboratory units and/or departments.
- Lead, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing laboratory teams.
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, coaching, succession planning, and employee development.
- Translate organizational strategy into actionable operational plans and measurable goals.
- Manage resources, budgets, staffing, costs, forecasts, and operational priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement, cost optimization, operational efficiency, and standardization.
- Establish and maintain laboratory competency, training, and testing standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, licensing, quality, safety, and accreditation requirements.
- Lead corrective and preventive actions related to regulatory and accreditation findings.
- Partner with executive leadership, physicians, vendors, public health organizations, and other healthcare stakeholders.
- Oversee quality management systems, audits, process improvement initiatives, and proficiency testing.
- Ensure laboratory testing is performed accurately and results are properly verified and reported.
- Improve pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
- Support implementation of new testing methodologies, technologies, and innovative laboratory practices.
- Oversee inventory, equipment, supplies, facilities, and vendor relationships.
- Drive strategic laboratory projects and initiatives across local, regional, and national teams.
- Maintain competency in laboratory testing and perform bench work when appropriate.
