About The Position

The Senior Director, Clinical Operations (Medical/Surgical) is responsible for overseeing multiple clinical departments or programs, managing a significant number of Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs), and playing a key role in strategic planning and execution. This position involves significant budget management, interdisciplinary project oversight, and ensuring high standards of patient experience, quality, regulatory compliance, and safety across various departments. The role also encompasses organizational clinical education and professional development, as well as managing clinical affiliations for Nursing.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a Masters degree in Nursing or Healthcare administration
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive nursing leadership experience
  • CT RN License

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for more than 2 clinical departments or programs with greater than 150 FTE's including Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers
  • Responsible for Organizational and or Nursing strategic plan development and execution
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring, and adherence to annual operations and capital budgets for multiple units or departments
  • Oversight and or Management of interdisciplinary projects and initiatives to meet strategic initiatives and goals
  • Responsible for organizational clinical education and professional development across a number of disciplines and manages all clinical affiliations for Nursing
  • Responsible for Patient experience, quality, regulatory and safety oversight over multiple departments
  • Produce cogent & persuasive written materials to address nursing, health care & organizational issues.

  • Collaborates with clinical and nonclinical administrative leadership to develop strategic & operational plans for assigned clinical service lines/departments

  • Ensure that written organization clinical policies & procedures are reviewed & updated in accordance with evidence based practice.
  • Utilize research/EBP findings for the establishments of standards, practices, and patient care models of the organization
  • Facilitate & or Participate in studies that provide outcome measures
  • Identify, develop, monitor patient care quality improvement goals & objectives
  • Knowledge of federal & state laws and regulations that impact the provision of patient care
  • Knowledge of patient care standards as published by the Joint Commission, CMS, and professional Nursing literature
  • Understand, articulate and ensure compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing regulations, regulatory agency standards and the policies of the Organization
  • Monitor clinical activities to identify both expected and unexpected risks
  • Membership & Participation in Professional organizations
  • Participate and encourage continued professional education
  • Evaluate organizational assessments to identify succession planning opportunities and establish action plans
  • Serve as a role model & mentor to future nursing leaders
