Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Planning, Design and Construction, this role provides collaboration, communication, and leadership in support of Emory University's capital and non-capital construction programs. The focus is on projects from $2 million and above, including renovation and deferred maintenance projects, through to completion and closeout. The position requires a thorough understanding of Emory University's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), capital funding process, and processes for project design, sustainability, documentation, and construction. It involves balancing project workloads and requirements for a team of 6 construction program managers and their administrative support staff. In coordination with university leadership, this role is responsible for developing and implementing a growth strategy to enable the Planning, Design & Construction department to successfully execute major campus development plans, including the Campus Framework Masterplan, Executive Park development, off-campus leased site projects, and Emory Healthcare projects. The role is responsible for establishing goals to meet project budgets and scheduling, managing logistics, and mitigating the potential impact of construction on the University. Collaboration with other Senior Directors is key to establishing a high-performing team capable of cross-utilizing skill sets. This position is directly responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating Emory's Design & Construction Standards and associated processes, including the transition from construction to operations. It also involves establishing and maintaining relationships with the City of Atlanta Planning Department and other authorities to facilitate permitting and inspections. The role participates in design and technical reviews, works closely with Facilities Management to ensure their needs are met, and leads the selection and contract negotiation for architects, engineers, consultants, and construction managers. Guidance is provided to staff to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, with immediate notification to leadership of any delays or budget challenges. The role is responsible for successful project closeouts, post-occupancy evaluations, and ensuring receipt of all necessary documentation and warranties. Finally, it involves developing departmental guidelines, policies, procedures, programs, and services to improve customer satisfaction and project management efficiencies, performing other responsibilities as required by the Vice President for Campus Services.
