About The Position

Owens & Minor is a global healthcare solutions company. The Senior Director, Accounting – Medical Distribution & Services (MD&S) is the senior-most accounting leader within the MD&S division responsible for overseeing the division’s accounting operations, financial close and reporting, internal controls, and technical accounting matters. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the division’s financial statements while building scalable accounting processes to support growth, acquisitions, and private equity ownership requirements. This role partners closely with the Controller, senior accounting and finance leaders, and operational leaders to deliver high-quality financial reporting, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, and support private equity sponsor, lender, and board reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including senior leadership roles.
  • Deep U.S. GAAP and technical accounting expertise.
  • Experience in distribution and private equity–backed environments preferred.
  • Financial systems leadership experience preferred, including hands-on exposure to enterprise ERP, consolidation, planning, close, and reconciliation tools.
  • Strong leadership, communication skills, and executive presence.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting Leadership: Leads all MD&S accounting functions including GL, consolidations, intercompany, inventory, fixed assets, and revenue recognition.
  • Builds and develop a high-performing accounting organization.
  • Establishes strong accounting governance, policies, and procedures.
  • Financial Close, Consolidation & Reporting: Owns monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Ensures accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Partners with FP&A and Treasury for alignment across reporting and forecasts.
  • Ensures effective use of financial consolidation, reconciliation, and reporting systems to support a timely, accurate, and well-controlled close process.
  • Technical Accounting & Policy: Serves as the authority on technical accounting matters specific to MD&S.
  • Leads accounting for complex transactions including M&A.
  • Maintains accounting policies consistent with enterprise policies.
  • Internal Controls, Audit and Compliance: Designs and maintain a strong internal control environment.
  • Leads external audit activities specific to MD&S.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • M&A, Integration & Private Equity Interface: Leads accounting due diligence and integration activities specific to MD&S.
  • Supports sponsor, lender, and board reporting.
  • Supports preparation of financials for exit readiness and QoE processes.
  • Supports financial systems integration and data harmonization efforts for acquisitions and divestitures specific to MD&S.
  • Systems, Process Improvement & Scalability: Acts as the business owner for key finance systems.
  • Ensures accurate data integration, mapping, and governance across source systems, subledgers, and consolidation platforms.
  • Drives close acceleration, automation, and standardization initiatives leveraging financial systems capabilities.
  • Partners with IT, FP&A, and external implementation partners on system enhancements, upgrades, and integrations.
