About The Position

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will join AoPS’s Platform Group, which owns the infrastructure, developer experience, and core services used by AoPS products. You will help build and operate a platform that is more visible, resilient, and easier for engineers to build on. The role focuses on leading observability practices as the architecture becomes more distributed; working with product engineers to define meaningful service metrics and SLOs; operating and evolving Kubernetes in production; and designing CI/CD pipelines and self-service tools. You will lead incident response, investigate root causes, conduct effective post-mortems, identify application stability risks, and help establish engineering standards through reviews and mentorship. You will also explore ways AI can improve infrastructure and engineering effectiveness. This is a hybrid full-time position based at AoPS headquarters in San Diego, California. The full salary range is $134,000–$180,000. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a background check, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship, including STEM-OPT and H-1B, is unavailable.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or software engineering, including at least 3 years focused on infrastructure or operations.
  • Operational experience running Kubernetes in production.
  • Deep observability experience, including hands-on proficiency with a modern observability platform such as Datadog, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry, and experience building tooling around it.
  • Experience defining SLOs and helping product teams adopt good observability practices.
  • Strong experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and internal developer tooling.
  • Experience designing, securing, and managing scalable infrastructure in AWS.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code; Terraform is preferred.
  • Solid software engineering skills and comfort writing production-quality code for tools and automation.
  • A track record of leading incident response and turning lessons learned into lasting improvements.
  • An AI-forward mindset and genuine curiosity about how AI is changing infrastructure and engineering work.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence engineering practices across teams.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; the company cannot provide sponsorship, including STEM-OPT and H-1B.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with event-driven or distributed architectures, such as message buses and asynchronous services.

  • Experience building or contributing to AI-powered developer tooling.
  • Experience in EdTech or consumer products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the observability practice, including logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
  • Work with product engineers to define service health measures and meaningful SLOs, and incorporate observability into their work.
  • Operate and evolve the production Kubernetes platform, maintaining reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Design CI/CD pipelines and self-service tooling so product teams can ship quickly and safely.
  • Lead incident response, identify root causes, and run post-mortems that drive lasting improvements.
  • Identify stability risks in application designs before they reach production.
  • Establish standards for observability, Kubernetes, and developer tooling across engineering.
  • Support other engineers’ development through code reviews and mentorship.
  • Explore ways AI can improve infrastructure and engineering effectiveness, and share findings with the team.

Benefits

  • Multiple options for medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • PTO plan.
