Senior Developer Educator

ngrok Inc.•San Francisco, CA
•$147,200 - $200,000

About The Position

ngrok is hiring a Senior Developer Educator to create distinctive technical education and brand-defining work that changes how developers think about ngrok. The role focuses on turning complex ideas in areas such as networking, distributed systems, GPUs, and AI into compelling work in the medium best suited to each idea. Possible formats include deep technical posts, interactive web experiences, videos, CLI demonstrations, skill files, and open-source projects. Writing is central to the role, including when the final work is not an article. The educator is expected to build from inside ngrok by spending time with the product and working with the content team and product and engineering colleagues. The work should help establish ngrok as an authority on networking, infrastructure, and AI, while prioritizing quality and lasting impact over publishing cadence or volume. The role is remote for candidates outside the Bay Area and hybrid for candidates within commuting distance of San Francisco, with Bay Area employees commuting to the office Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The role does not focus on algorithm-driven content, weekly quotas, scheduled launch posts, product PR, generic listicles, trend-chasing, or having AI write content. ngrok uses AI for research, orientation in unfamiliar code, and draft feedback, but writing is done by the author. The position offers a salary and equity; compensation varies by work location and is assessed based on qualifications, experience, potential impact, role scope, internal equity, and market data. ngrok is unable to provide visa sponsorship; US applicants must be authorized to work permanently in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Strong writing ability and a deep interest in the craft of writing; reads widely and has considered opinions about writing.
  • Builder's instinct and ability to make technical ideas tangible and clear for learners.
  • Deep technical knowledge of AI/ML or networking and infrastructure, or serious curiosity about the area not already known.
  • Eagerness to learn across ngrok's product areas, including tunnels, gateways, deployments, and GPUs.
  • A body of work demonstrating taste and range, potentially including writing, launches, tools, talks, side projects, or interactive work.
  • Experience working directly with product and engineering teams and translating product or engineering insights into useful developer content.
  • Strong opinions about the quality of content from other developer tools companies and how it could be improved.
  • Awareness of developer conversations on Hacker News, X, Bluesky, and developer newsletters.
  • Ability to both give and receive critique, with a sharp eye for quality.
  • Experience as a full-stack or backend developer, or in infrastructure or AI, so technical writing resonates with developers and DevOps/platform engineers.
  • Experience building something with AI agents and LLMs and a clear understanding of where those tools help and where they do not.
  • High standards for quality and willingness to withhold work that is not good enough to publish.
  • A portfolio of work, with links to be submitted.
  • An active ngrok account.
