About The Position

Viam is seeking a Senior Developer Advocate to increase developer awareness and adoption of their robotics engineering platform. The Developer Advocacy team, reporting to the SVP of Product & Education, will focus on growing Viam's developer community and driving platform activation. This role involves creating software and hardware projects, translating them into engaging content, and representing Viam in various developer communities and events. Projects can span diverse areas such as robotics, computer vision, smart devices, and AI. While prior robotics experience is not mandatory, a strong enthusiasm for hands-on work with hardware and physical systems is expected.

Requirements

  • Experience as a software engineer, including building, shipping, and maintaining production software.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, C++, or TypeScript.
  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to independently scope, build, debug, and iterate on software projects with minimal guidance.
  • A proven history of creating high-quality technical content for developers (e.g., tutorials, videos, sample projects, workshops, talks).
  • Hands-on experience with hardware, IoT, embedded systems, electronics, maker projects, or similar physical systems.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts with retained technical depth.
  • A solid understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new technologies.
  • Comfort with public speaking, teaching, appearing on video, and direct engagement with developer communities.
  • Capacity to move quickly, experiment frequently, and make decisions about project feasibility and implementation.
  • Willingness to travel and participate in occasional evening or weekend events.

Responsibilities

  • Build creative robotics projects to showcase Viam's capabilities to developers.
  • Develop technical content, including tutorials, videos, sample code, workshops, demos, and talks, based on built projects and learnings.
  • Represent Viam at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and other developer events by speaking, teaching, and collaborating with developers.
  • Foster engagement within Viam's Discord and other developer communities, while building personal credibility.
  • Explore emerging technologies and developer tools to identify opportunities for Viam's participation or development.
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot the software and hardware components of demos and projects.
  • Relay developer feedback to Product and Engineering teams, and analyze engagement data to inform future strategies.
