About The Position

As a Senior Design Engineer at Southland Industries, you will work on design-build and design-assist projects across healthcare, education, biotech, mission critical, commercial, and entertainment markets. You will collaborate with model coordinators, estimators, and trade staff throughout projects to develop practical, efficient, and cost-effective designs. The role also provides access to internal teams working in virtual construction design (VDC) and computational fluid dynamics, as well as feedback from the field.

Requirements

• Four-year degree in Engineering or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design, such as HVAC and plumbing, and a general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with employees at all levels, clients, and general contractors.
• Strong public speaking skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Revit, CADD, and Microsoft Office products such as Excel.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the design professional at project team design meetings.
• Prepare complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Perform complex project calculations, including heating and cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, and friction loss calculations.
• Conduct site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolve design issues during construction.
• Supervise or direct less-experienced engineers' workflow in HVAC or other system design.
• Provide conceptual design for specific projects.
