About The Position

The Data Center Engineering team advances the physical design of data centers through research, testing, and development of strategies for efficient, state-of-the-art facilities. The role focuses on complex infrastructure topics, including power and environmentally friendly facility operations, and involves identifying improvements, communicating recommendations to senior-level executives, and driving implementation with facilities technicians. The engineer ensures compliance with codes and standards, develops infrastructure improvements, and serves as a technical expert in a specialty such as cooling or electrical systems. The position supports the Technical Infrastructure team in developing and maintaining data centers and building future Google platforms. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The stated US pay range is $144,000–$208,000, with a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.
Experience in mechanical infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or another relevant field.
Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical data center mechanical equipment.
Experience designing complex modular building-scale assemblies, with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles, particularly design for medium-scale production, structural beams/elements, and international building codes.

Responsibilities

Define data center system-level and product architecture and research and development, while helping develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems and processes.
Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Ensure designs and installations meet requirements, including predicted cooling, structural, and operational concerns.
Ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements, and serve as an expert in a specialty such as cooling or electrical systems.
Communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
