Datacenter Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•San Jose, CA

About The Position

AMD is seeking a Data Center Technical Due Diligence & Assurance Engineer to assess and validate high-density data center infrastructure. The role supports the infrastructure lifecycle from technical due diligence before capacity commitment through technical assurance, commissioning, and Ready for Service (RFS). It involves engineering analysis, documentation review, onsite infrastructure validation, commissioning review, and troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical, cooling, energy, controls, reliability, and critical infrastructure systems. Successful candidates can analyze complex infrastructure systems, evaluate engineering evidence, identify technical risks and dependencies, and translate findings into clear recommendations. The role requires reviewing engineering documentation, investigating technical issues, validating field conditions, and collaborating with specialists across relevant infrastructure disciplines. Candidates need not have experience with every listed technology; relevant expertise from data centers, critical facilities, utilities, industrial infrastructure, energy systems, engineering consulting, or comparable environments may be applicable. Travel to data center locations is required; the expected percentage and geographic scope are not specified. The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, energy engineering, systems engineering, another relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to analyze complex infrastructure systems, evaluate engineering evidence, identify technical risks and dependencies, and translate findings into clear recommendations.
  • Ability to review engineering documentation, investigate technical issues, validate field conditions, and collaborate across infrastructure disciplines.
  • Approximately five or more years of relevant experience is typical; equivalent demonstrated technical capability gained through other combinations of education, training, and experience may also be considered.
  • Travel to data center locations is required.
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant technical capability in data centers, critical facilities, electrical or mechanical systems, energy infrastructure, or engineering consulting.
  • Experience with data center electrical infrastructure such as substations, MV/LV distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, and downstream power distribution.
  • Experience with mechanical and cooling infrastructure such as chillers, pumps, cooling loops, heat rejection, or liquid cooling.
  • Experience with high-density infrastructure technologies such as DLC, CDUs, manifolds, BMS, and EPMS.
  • Experience with utility power or behind-the-meter technologies such as reciprocating engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, or comparable energy systems.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, equipment submittals, test procedures, and commissioning documentation.
  • Experience with data center commissioning and integrated systems testing.
  • Experience in evidence-based troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and technical risk assessment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication of technical findings and recommended actions.
  • Experience conducting onsite infrastructure assessment and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform desktop and onsite technical due diligence of proposed data center facilities.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, equipment data, studies, test reports, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Evaluate utility power, substations, MV/LV electrical distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, power distribution, and applicable behind-the-meter energy solutions.
  • Assess cooling architecture, including chillers, pumps, cooling loops, direct liquid cooling, CDUs, manifolds, and heat-rejection systems.
  • Evaluate infrastructure resiliency, redundancy, controls, connectivity, capacity, and operational readiness.
  • Identify technical risks, design gaps, dependencies, and corrective actions.
  • Validate active data center programs against agreed engineering and readiness requirements.
  • Investigate infrastructure issues, analyze root causes, and develop or evaluate technical resolutions.
  • Assess technical changes for potential effects on design, reliability, capacity, cost, schedule, and operational requirements.
  • Review commissioning and integrated systems testing, including applicable L3, L4, L5, and RFS activities.
  • Conduct onsite validation of power, cooling, controls, connectivity, and related critical infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, data center providers, cloud service providers, equipment suppliers, and external engineering specialists.
  • Document findings, risks, evidence, and recommendations clearly for technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
