About The Position

The Senior Database Engineer will serve as a database engineering voice on a mission-critical, geographically distributed system supporting the Intelligence Community, where interface, performance, and security tolerances are tight. The role owns relational and non-relational data architecture, including design, implementation, and documentation, and engineers data movement across distributed nodes, concurrent access, failover, and high availability. The engineer performs database tuning, capacity and performance planning, investigates issues through resolution, and handles backup, recovery, and user administration. The role also translates schemas by turning requirements and raw data into usable structures using ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros. Additional work includes requirements analysis, risk assessment, alternatives analysis for system-level problems, and defining long- and short-term database administration and design requirements. Embedded in an Agile team, the engineer interfaces with systems, software, test, and information assurance engineers; contributes to Program Increment Planning; and collaborates daily with technical peers and customer points of contact. Some travel to Maryland is required for quarterly planning if the employee is not local.
