About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is seeking a Senior Database Developer with expertise in PostgreSQL and AWS to join their team. This role involves owning the database layer of a federal agency's enterprise data platform, focusing on physical design, data models, and performance optimization across Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, and Apache Iceberg tables on S3. Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.
  • Hybrid role requiring regular commuting into Washington, DC.
  • Deep, hands-on ownership of a database layer on Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), DynamoDB, and S3 with Apache Iceberg tables: physical design, tuning, and modeling.
  • Proficiency in stored procedures, schema migration, S3 load patterns into platform stores, and governed access.
  • Judgment to build in a regulated environment where accuracy and auditability are critical.
  • 7+ years of database development and administration experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), DynamoDB, and S3 with Apache Iceberg tables.
  • Experience with physical design at scale: partitioning, indexing, and storage layout.
  • Experience with query and EXPLAIN-plan tuning on large datasets.
  • Experience with logical and physical data modeling.
  • Experience with PL/pgSQL stored procedures and S3 load patterns into relational and Iceberg stores.
  • Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Schema migration tooling (AWS Schema Conversion Tool).
  • Apache Ranger access controls.
  • Experience with Neptune or Neo4j.
  • Federal information technology or high-volume transaction experience.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Own the database layer of a federal agency's enterprise data platform, including physical design, data models, and performance.
  • Shape the structure and tuning of a large, high-volume platform across Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, and Apache Iceberg tables on S3.
  • Develop a database layer that performs through physical design (partitioning, indexing, storage layout), query and plan tuning on large datasets, and robust data models.
  • Implement schema migrations, S3 load patterns into relational and Iceberg stores, stored procedures, and Apache Ranger access controls.
  • Contribute to new capabilities, tools, and lines of business within the firm over time.
