About The Position

Aretum is seeking a Senior Data Solution Engineer to design data governance, tagging, and metadata standards and work with medallion architecture. The position supports consequential design decisions and helps determine whether solutions will scale or accumulate technical debt. The role involves handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), with compliance and safeguarding requirements applicable to federal consulting work. This is a remote position with occasional travel expected to be less than 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of direct production experience with Databricks and Unity Catalog, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing data governance, tagging, and metadata standards.
  • Deep understanding of medallion architecture and how metadata, sensitivity, and access requirements evolve across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers.
  • Experience implementing column masking, row-level security, and dynamic access controls.
  • Ability to reconcile competing requirements across stakeholders.
  • Strong SQL and Spark skills.
  • Proficiency in defining pipeline configuration and data contracts declaratively (e.g., YAML) as version-controlled, enforceable artifacts.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination, depending on agency background-investigation requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cybersecurity challenges, OCSF, and threat intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data management and governance solutions in Databricks and Unity Catalog, ensuring datasets are classified, documented, secured, and managed throughout their life cycle.
  • Evaluate solution scalability, maintainability, and performance to support data architecture and design decisions.
  • Develop and implement data governance tagging, metadata standards, and classification frameworks for data discovery, traceability, compliance, and consistent governance.
  • Define and enforce governance requirements across the Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers of medallion architecture, including metadata, sensitivity classifications, and access controls as data is transformed.
  • Implement and maintain column-level masking, row-level security, and dynamic access controls.
  • Develop and optimize production data pipelines using SQL and Spark.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, data owners, security stakeholders, and business partners to reconcile competing requirements and translate them into practical data solutions.
