About The Position

DMBA (Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators) is a non-profit organization that administers benefits for companies owned or affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. DMBA is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer for Migration & Quality to support a large-scale migration from an Oracle to SQL Server health insurance claims processing platform and the continued expansion of the enterprise data warehouse. This is a 12-month contract position with the potential for a 12-month extension. The role follows a hybrid schedule, with required in-office work on Mondays and Tuesdays. The primary responsibility is migrating reporting logic, data-load processes, and business rules from legacy solutions into the enterprise data warehouse while supporting the transition to the new platform. Existing reports, extracts, operational processes, and downstream systems rely on logic embedded in legacy-specific fields, configurations, and workflows. As those structures are retired, the engineer will understand current-state logic, identify equivalent modern data and business rules, and help make the enterprise data warehouse the long-term source of truth for reporting and downstream integrations. The engineer will work with BI/ETL developers, senior engineers, architects, business subject matter experts, and AI-assisted analysis tools to determine how legacy logic should be translated into the future-state warehouse architecture. The work is hands-on and analytical, involving migration, validation, and data quality. Success requires quickly understanding unfamiliar schemas, data models, business rules, and legacy system behavior; investigating complex data discrepancies; tracing logic across systems; reverse-engineering processes; and determining how business rules should be implemented in a modern data platform. Strong SQL skills and the ability to work independently with large, complex relational datasets are important.

Requirements

  • Strong SQL and relational database skills, particularly with SQL Server.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience performing data validation, reconciliation, data profiling, migration testing, or database-level QA.
  • Ability to write SQL to compare and analyze large datasets across complex database structures.
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar database schemas, data models, and business processes.
  • Strong data reconciliation skills, including identifying, investigating, and resolving discrepancies across multiple systems.
  • Ability to reverse-engineer existing reports, processes, data models, and business rules.
  • Curiosity and an investigative mindset, with an interest in understanding how data moves through enterprise systems.
  • Ability to work from incomplete documentation and independently develop appropriate validation and reconciliation approaches.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, business stakeholders, and AI-assisted tools to solve complex data problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft SQL Server / T-SQL experience.
  • Experience validating ETL, ELT, or data warehouse processes.
  • Experience with data migrations and large-scale system conversions.
  • Experience migrating reporting logic from legacy systems to modern data platforms.
  • Experience with healthcare or health-plan data.
  • Experience using AI-assisted analysis and development tools to accelerate data analysis, validation, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Migrate reporting logic, data-load processes, and business rules from legacy solutions into the enterprise data warehouse.
  • Understand current-state logic and identify equivalent modern data and business rules as legacy structures are retired.
  • Help establish the enterprise data warehouse as the long-term source of truth for reporting and downstream integrations.
  • Work with BI/ETL developers, senior engineers, architects, business subject matter experts, and AI-assisted analysis tools to translate legacy logic into the future-state warehouse architecture.
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, migration testing, database-level QA, and data profiling.
  • Investigate data discrepancies, trace logic across multiple systems, and reverse-engineer existing reports, processes, data models, and business rules.
  • Develop validation and reconciliation approaches when documentation is incomplete.
  • Support the Oracle-to-SQL Server platform migration and ongoing enterprise data warehouse expansion.
