About The Position

The Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer will support hyperscale data center construction programs by focusing on the design of new hyperscale data center buildings, providing engineering solutions to operations staff, and streamlining the resolution of construction issues. This role is part of the Project Management function, responsible for managing projects from initiation to completion.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree preferred with 8-10 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
Minimum 2 years of experience in data center construction is required.
Experience and knowledge of working with cross-disciplinary teams, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, electrical, and architectural.
Innovative mentality to develop methods that go beyond existing solutions.
Ability to solve unique problems using standard and innovative solutions having a broad impact on the business.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Solid understanding of large-scale, data center mechanical infrastructure, including cooling and fire protection.
Must be able to work independently remotely, but also willing to travel to construction sites with little or no supervision.
Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.

Nice To Haves

Experience with waterless cooling solutions (i.e.: air-cooled chillers, dry coolers, adiabatic systems) preferred but not required.
Experience with data center projects inside and outside of the US is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Manage all areas of project management for multiple real estate projects, including planning, design, construction, occupancy, and closeout.
Work directly with clients to prepare project elements such as scope of work, resource requirements, cost estimates, budget, work plan schedule, milestones, quality control, and risk identification.
Review and assist in the technical development of mechanical systems (airside & waterside) for hyperscale data centers, including campus planning, general layout/arrangements, CFD & noise modeling, climate data evaluations, hydraulic analyses, pipe sizing, and bin hour analyses.
Oversee A/E design consultants and provide direction or escalation according to established engineering standards.
Peer review A/E design consultants’ deliverables, including drawing sets, specifications, sequence of operations, calculations, and models, and provide comments and resolutions.
Review and advise on potential value engineering opportunities.
Analyze for redundancies, failure modes, and SPOFs, working with Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) modelers to verify conformance.
Conduct rapid conceptual sketches using CAD or BIM for visualization and spatial/dimensional validations.
Work with partners in construction, design, and change management to compile, prioritize/triage, and process construction-originated engineering issues for standard design/product improvements.
Develop engineering bulletins and route them through established procedures to ensure wide dissemination of design changes.
Support overall standard design improvement loops/processes between products, design, construction, and operations.
Visit construction sites or operational sites if needed.
Produce presentations as the main deliverable format to communicate findings, evaluations, and options to internal stakeholders.
Contribute to new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans to achieve functional goals.
Communicate difficult and complex ideas with the ability to influence.
