Vanderbilt University Medical CenterNashville, TN
Hybrid

About The Position

Develops, maintains, and supports data architecture and design standards across the organization, with a focus on scalable, sustainable, and clinically aligned solutions. Partners closely with architecture leadership to ensure data, Epic build, and clinical decision support (CDS) solutions are designed and implemented in alignment with enterprise data platforms and clinical workflows. Operates across data, application, and clinical domains to maximize data utility, enable advanced analytics and AI use cases, and maintain reconcilability across systems.

Requirements

  • Epic Architecture & Clinical Systems (Intermediate/Advanced): Demonstrates strong knowledge of Epic workflows and how clinicians interact with the system.
  • Experience with Epic data structures, build (master files, imports/exports), and data flows (Chronicles to Clarity).
  • Familiarity with CDS design and build options (CER rules, OPAs), and Cogito tools (Reporting Workbench).
  • Experience developing integrated solutions across Epic applications; deeper knowledge of Chronicles (m-code) is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple Epic application teams.
  • Data Architecture & Engineering (Intermediate): Experience with data warehousing, data lakes, and modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, EDW).
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to design efficient, scalable data models and transformations.
  • Understanding of APIs and integration patterns, including Epic APIs and FHIR/CDS Hooks.
  • Analytics, AI, and Visualization (Intermediate): Familiarity with data visualization and storytelling tools (e.g., Tableau, Databricks dashboards).
  • Interest in and exposure to AI/LLM technologies (agents, prompting, and applied use cases).
  • Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) preferred.
  • Collaboration & Business Architecture (Intermediate): Comfortable working across diverse technical, clinical, and operational teams.
  • Ability to translate clinical and business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Contributes to architectural planning and promotes alignment across teams and initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of relevant work experience

Nice To Haves

  • Deeper knowledge of Chronicles (m-code) is a plus.
