About The Position

Peraton seeks a Senior Cyber Data Capabilities Developer to support DCDC by developing and implementing software capabilities for big data processing and cyberspace data analysis. Based in Fort Meade, Maryland, this role engineers software that transforms cyber telemetry into analytic outputs supporting authorized defensive and offensive cyberspace operations. The role leads the design, development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of software applications, services, libraries, and analytic pipelines for cyber operational data. It involves developing batch and streaming data functions across distributed data platforms and working with cyber operators, threat analysts, data engineers, and Government leads to turn mission questions, telemetry limitations, and analytic needs into tested software. The developer also provides technical leadership and mentorship, documents software and deployment processes, and designs and integrates APIs, microservices, data interfaces, and event-driven services. The position uses Git-based collaborative development and CI/CD workflows and applies a range of software engineering paradigms. Candidates must meet applicable DoD 8140 work-role qualification requirements, align primarily with the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework Software Developer (621), be U.S. citizens, and hold an active TS clearance with the ability to obtain or maintain SCI.

Requirements

  • Minimum experience based on education: 12 years with a BS/BA, 10 years with an MS/MA, 16 years with a high school diploma, or 14 years with an associate degree.
  • Eight years of professional software development experience, including responsibility for designing, delivering, and maintaining production software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency writing production code in at least two programming languages, including Python or another language suited to data processing, and demonstrated SQL proficiency.
  • Experience with Git-based distributed version control and collaborative development workflows, with the ability to work in GitLab or an equivalent platform.
  • Experience with software architecture, data structures, algorithms, debugging, automated testing, code review, and secure software development.
  • Experience developing or integrating software for large datasets, distributed processing, databases, data pipelines, APIs, or streaming systems.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, network and host telemetry, security events, cyber threats, and the operational context of defensive and offensive cyberspace missions.
  • Ability to lead technical implementation, resolve complex defects, communicate design decisions, and deliver documented, testable code.
  • Ability to meet applicable DoD 8140 work-role qualification requirements; primary alignment to DoD Cyber Workforce Framework Software Developer (621).

  • Knowledge and skill in Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, Hadoop, distributed SQL engines, graph databases, columnar data formats, and high-volume event processing.
  • Proficiency working with cloud and container platforms, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, GitLab CI/CD, automated deployment, and DevSecOps workflows.
  • Familiarity with statistical computing, machine learning, model integration, feature engineering, graph algorithms, or SI-assisted development with validation and human review.
  • Proficiency in data quality controls, schema evolution, telemetry provenance, time-series analysis, and performance tuning for large cyber datasets.
  • Experience with the JCWA Common Runtime Stack for Data (JCRS-D), Caspian, or comparable DoW cyber data environments.
  • Technical leadership experience leading in Agile teams.
  • Experience supporting Joint, Service, DoD, or Cyber Mission Force organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of software applications, services, libraries, and analytic pipelines for cyber operational data.
  • Develop batch and streaming data ingestion, parsing, normalization, enrichment, correlation, indexing, and query functions across distributed data platforms.
  • Work with cyber operators, threat analysts, data engineers, and Government leads to translate mission questions, telemetry limitations, and analytic requirements into tested software.
  • Mentor developers; establish coding and review practices; assess technical tradeoffs; and document designs, source code, tests, interfaces, and deployment procedures.
  • Design and integrate APIs, microservices, data interfaces, and event-driven services using documented contracts and appropriate protocols.
  • Use Git-based distributed version control, including GitLab, for branching, merge requests, peer review, issue tracking, release management, and CI/CD pipelines.
