About The Position

The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Infrastructure Delivery Engineering team builds services and tools to accelerate the growth of OCI compute and network capacity. Its systems support the physical asset lifecycle—from planning and design through delivery and decommissioning—so OCI can expand in existing and new regions. The team is developing highly available, scalable services for managing physical assets in a greenfield environment with substantial autonomy and integration through established contracts. The engineer designs, implements, maintains, and operates distributed cloud services and infrastructure. The role contributes to scalable and reliable system components, performance and fault testing, operational monitoring and incident response, security and compliance, and automation and change management. It also includes cross-team planning, problem solving, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong understanding of computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and programming paradigms.
  • Proficiency in Java or Python.
  • Experience building highly available services and knowledge of common service-oriented design patterns and service-to-service communication protocols.
  • Experience with production operations and best practices for deploying quality code and troubleshooting issues.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas effectively verbally and in writing, including through technical proposals, design specifications, architecture diagrams, and presentations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience building control-plane or data-plane solutions for cloud-native companies.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving performance issues in complex environments.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and contribute to distributed-system components that support horizontal and vertical scaling, including use of distributed state management tools.
  • Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and implement scalability requirements for assigned components; review teammates’ implementations.
  • Use data-plane platform components for large-scale data retrieval, storage, and processing.
  • Implement performance and load testing.
  • Collaborate on fault-tolerant components that support in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover.
  • Apply recovery-oriented computing principles and implement retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts to handle service disruptions and network unreliability.
  • Implement tests and alarm configurations to detect and address issues proactively.
  • Support failure recovery by drafting and executing runbooks and operational procedures.
  • Build and customize dashboards, telemetry, and alerting to monitor component health.
  • Design and implement feature requirements and tests, including fault-injection and brown-out scenarios, and use replication and synchronization techniques to preserve data integrity and availability.
  • Diagnose, debug, and resolve system-component issues; implement strategies and tooling to troubleshoot operational problems and prevent service interruptions or customer maintenance windows.
  • Participate in operational support rotations, incident response, and root-cause investigations.
  • Apply security measures, including encryption and access controls, and implement remediation plans in multi-tenant environments.
  • Help ensure cloud infrastructure complies with relevant standards and regulations and keep documentation up to date.
  • Maintain automation scripts and tools, including Infrastructure as Code, and follow change-management plans for patching, updates, and rollbacks.
  • Track timelines with minimal supervision, complete work in alignment with project requirements, and reprioritize as resources or timelines change.
  • Collaborate across teams, align expectations, understand stakeholder and customer needs, and build effective partnerships.
  • Identify and address standard and non-standard issues, analyze information from multiple sources, escalate complex issues as appropriate, and contribute to knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Build new skills and stay current with industry trends; seek feedback and contribute to team learning.
  • Recommend process, protocol, and workflow improvements, seeking input on alternative approaches.
